Forums - Gaming - Sony, MS and Nintendo - Which genre do you think their games are the best in?

Yoshi, Kirby, Splatoon (Nintendo confirmed it will be a platformer in the singleplayer campaign)

R & C isn't even a platformer. Insomniac Games also makes games for other platforms anyway, so they aren't part of Sony.

DK64 is the worst 3D platformer "Nintendo" ever made. And if you're counting Crash and Spyro you should also count Banjo-Kazooie and Conker.

I've never cared to play a Kirby or Yoshi game so my bad.

Ratchet and clank is 100% a platformer though. I've played like 7 games from the franchise (which has been wholly owned by Sony since day one, not just bought at a later time ala gears) and there are tons of platofrming elements. What made it stand out was the witty sarcastic humor and the wide array of inventive weaponry.

But now that I think about it, it could also be called a third person shooter as well. So I'm gonna take back gears from Microsoft and add TPS to Sony's list of genres they dominate at. Thank you (:

No, you spend by far the most time beating up enemies.

I guess Metroid is a platformer as well.

Except that Ratchet & Clank actually is a platformer. Though it does have some other elements integrated into it.

It's a comic third person shooter/beat 'em up with some minor platforming elements. I played the very first R & C last month, I barely did any platforming. You're in for a rude awakening if you play some real platformers like DKC: TF.

Real platformers? I hope you realize that platform games can come in many different shapes and forms. It's hard to compare a game like DKC: TF to any R & C title. Heck it's even hard to compare the gameplay experience of a 3D Mario to a 2D Mario for that matter. They're different experiences.

You're missing too many franchises. Did you just copy Samus? If so, look at my reply to him.

And anyways, these lists have little to do with the thread.

Bolded games all have jumping from platform to platform as the main focus. Thus they're platformers.
According to your logic just about any game is a platformer, including Metroid.

True but your reply has many IPs misplaced and missing some MS IPs as well.

I just reordered them.

I don't think you're qualified to talk about a franchise you've had one experience with from the first entry in a game. The way you travel through levels is extremely reliant on platforming. The way you defeat bosses involves platforming. Pretty much all of the gadgets you unlock, aid in platforming. There's just badass guns thrown in so that you can shoot stuff while you platform. Its actually a really fun series, check it out sometime

I've played all the PS2 games and one PS3 title. I just recently replayed the first one.

I think it's a fun series, I just don't see it as much of a platformer. A fun tps/ beat em up with some platforming elements like I said.

Nope you completely ignored many Sony IP's on my list and left them out like MotorStorm, Wipeout, Socom U.S. Navy SEALs, Pursuit Force and Hot Shots Golf. Also since your list consists many idividual IP's you can add Gravity Rush, Heavy Rain, The Order: 1886, Beyond: Two Souls, Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars to the Sony list.
