Kinda surprised that some people took this seriously. I shouldn't be surprised considering what I've witnessed on this site, but still...

You are just surprised you didn't think of it first.

WiiU would be more successfull if it was named NES 6.

Actually if you look right when Nintendo make a hit they keep the name for the sucessor, but if it declines they change it.

NES success so we have SNES, but it loses market so they just keep Nintendo for the 64, another drop so they drop the company name and put GC, another fail and name changes to Wii, ubber success so they keep for WiiU. Gameboys had the base name untill decline so rename to DS, gangbuster so we got 3DS. I expect both platforms to change name next iteratione and if fused I seriously doubt they would go WiiDS or DSWii or 3DSWiiU or anything that remember the drop.

This also explains the massive success of the Atari 5200 and 7800...

Correct. That's why the Nintendo 64 sold 64 times more than the Ps1.

So this kind of psychology is only relevant in the U.S.A. Indeed very interesting!

I read somewhere that Microsoft did not name the Xbox 360 the Xbox 2 because it would look inferior to the PlayStation3. Take that however you will.

This is from 2005:   http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/xbox2-is-now-xbox-360.1998866/    Not official though.

" That's definitely not that first time we've heard that mentioned as one of the possible names for the next-generation Xbox; last year a marketing firm conducted a survey where they asked people whether they thought Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Nintendo N5 sounded more "next-gen" "

This was a funny clickbait story from yesteryear (4 Feb 2005 ) that applies to gaming forums ten years later:

" Xbox 2 and Xenon names debunked. The new Microsoft console is called…

Well click the story. What are you waiting for?

...the Xbox 360. At least according to the Internet, the globally linked computer network that enables disenfranchised males to enjoy unattainable female forms and make up videogame rumours.

http://spong.com/article/8303/Xbox-2-and-Xenon-names-debunked-The-new-Microsoft-console-is-called

It appears to be clickbait before it was actually named clickbait:

"The earliest known use of the term was in a blog post by corporate systems advisor Jay Geiger on December 1st, 2006. In the post, he defined clickbait as:

“Any content or feature within a website that “baits” a viewer to click. “Anything interesting enough to catch a person’s attention”. More often than not, click bait uses “highly alternative text/phrasing”, ”controversial slogans/ideas” or “culturally inspirational descriptions/events”. Click bait is similar to link bait but is generally seen as less effective, more shortsighted and more shortlived.”

WOW.
