Wow how disconnected from reality is this company. Well I think at worst they'll have one more bad console and then after that they'll realize they need to make some changes.

Read the fucking Q&A before commenting, this is what he says directly after that statement.

"However, we should learn from our experiences of not being able to perfectly respond to certain social changes such as changes in the way consumers collect and receive information. We recognize that we need to make changes in various areas."

He specified about this even more at that meeting. He gave Mario Kart as an example of the Wii U's fortunes turning around, which he was right. Wii U sales shot up after Mario Kart 8's release and had never really returned to it's pre-Mario Kart 8 sales. He was saying that another piece of software could have a similar impact.

Ya too many people are jumping the gun and assuming Iwata's whole plan going forward is hoping one single title is gonna be the next Pokemon craze, which is clearly not his point.

Even if Nintendo dropped a surprise Pokemon on Wii U I doubt it would go so far as to bring Wii U into the upper stratosphere of game sales. But continued great games are going to keep the console sales levels up.

And that's basically his point, with continued or increased software support, it's possible for 3DS and Wii U sales to rise.

The 8th installment of a 20+ year old franchise isn't really the equivalent of Pokemon back in 1996, a new ip that was a surprise phenomenon.

What do u mean by open their eyes? Because it has already been pointed out in this thread, Iwata goes on to talk about needing to make changes and improve in certain areas directly after making this statement.

Ah ok great so they do realize they need to make some changes. Hopefully they know which changes those are exactly. Then again at this point I don't even know if a console as powerful as the PS4/X1 would be enough. It's just seen as such a kiddie console. Me personally I would switch to Nintendo right away if I saw they were getting third party support again.

Sorry for cursing by the way, I just got frustrated because many people have commented without actually reading the Q&A.

But if u haven't read it yet, I suggest u do because it does cover quite a bit of interesting topics. Things like how does Nintendo plan on balancing existing and future businesses, marketing strategies going forward, how they plan to adapt to changes in entertainment, how they plan to expand the gaming population, the structure of their development divisions and how they plan to expand Amiibo.

As for what u just said, I highly doubt Nintendo has any plans on competing head to head with PS/XB and attracting western 3rd parties. In the last year or two, Iwata has talked alot about unifying their software and hardware divisions in order to make their devices more similar and increase software output. I think Nintendo is trying to create a world where they can be self-reliant and still be profitable. Nintendo does have strong relations with many Japanese developers along with constantly increasing indie support and child-friendly Western titles will still come. If AAA titles come from the likes of Electronic Arts/Activision/Ubisoft/Warner Bros/Take-Two than that's just icing on the cake but Nintendo wants to be in a situation where they can have constant software releases even if those big western games don't come. So basically streamline their gaming businesses while expanding thru things like Amiibo, QoL and licensing out their IP.
