Well thats great sales, no one can complain about 900k first week :P

Very successful! I doubt it'll outsell OoT 3D overall, but it has done well for a handheld!

Short of a couple games (a new installment of GTA for instance) I doubt many have ever been disappointed about nearly a million sales in the first week.

I'm sure I could find somebody who would call this a failure. I can hear the hypothetical doomsayer now...

"Other than Wind Waker HD, which was a re-release, the last major 3D Zelda was Skyward Sword, which had roughly 1.1 million sales week one. Considering how both games had similar levels of acclaim and SKyward Sword required an add-on, this is terrible news for Majora's Mask 3D. It is no wonder nobody makes games for the 3DS when even Nintendo can't make a million-seller for the damn thing!"

In all seriousness, this is about double the week one sales of Ocarina of Time 3D back in 2011, and though Ocarina had a tiny fanbase, it also had virtually no competition and a far larger reputation. These sales would make Majora's Mask 3D on par with Star Fox 64 3D, despite the original Star Fox 64 being more popular than the original Majora's Mask.

I agree with most of what you said, but I'm not sure it's fair to call the Ocarina of Time fan base "tiny" :p

These are sold to retailers, that is shipped numbers, Is it expected or not expected? Well what numbers did the last Zelda handheld game ship?

It's an astounding opening week, but I doubt it's going to have legs.

Excellent game that deserves the sales! (I'm quite surprised how well it has sold) I'm seriously considering picking up a New3DS soon!

Considering that it is a flagship title of a new Nintendo handheld revision, a lot of adversitment and interviews, all the time spent in development, the game has been asked for during 4 years by fans and that is way more frontloaded than Ocarina of Time...
