Forums - Gaming - PS4 To Outsell Xbox One By 40% Through 2018

What is going to make X1 close the gap then?

Heavy holiday push and price cuts I would imagine. How Microsoft can cover the gap not in the USA or UK is anyone's guess. It is going to be interesting to see what happens in the coming years.

PS4 will outsell the PS2. Mark my words. I will be the god of this website when that happens in like seven years.

No console is selling 150 million units ever again

absolutely agreed, you see i think the ps4 will sell 165 million, almost leaving the ps2 in the dust.

They seem to just be extrapolating out from the current ratio between the two consoles based on their numbers.  Normally I'd think that's fine but they aren't comparing the same thing to come up with the ratio and are instead comparing consumer sales for PS4 and 12.4m shipped for XBO which I don't even know where that comes from.

Anyway, assuminng the ratio of 12.4 to 18.5 stays consistent then if PS4 sells 80 you'd expect XBO to sell 53.6.  They upped XBO slightly to 57 but I mostly take issue with how they came up with the ratio in the first place.

This reason I am also not only confused, but curious as well. How you get that result is something I would like to understand as well.

Indeed. In the unlikelihood that Sony and Nintendo both collectively decide to infuriate gamers worldwide with their next consoles, I don't see the PS4 getting that much. If said indicative isn't being applied, support for the system is, and unless something like a similar quality game, such as Shadows of the Colossus surfaces on the system, results of the PS4 not getting that high remain.

Honestly, I am curious to see the PS4 maintain such a high sales pace for the remainder of this generation. To see it crank it up to sell around 20 million or more in a year is going to be nice to see, as it does have the support to do so. 2017 is a year I am most intrigued by, given the fact that Nintendo could push the "Restart" button so to speak and launch the next generation of consoles. Until that happens, I think roughly 19.1 million is still a great number; especially considering were not even into the spring season.

Hahahahaha by 2018 i see PS4 easily doubling X1's sales. I think the analysts don't keep in mind the X1 already had a big price cut, it has been bundled with many games and it has strong exclusives like sunset overdrive, the masterchief collection, forza horizon 2 and not exclusive but a console seller Titanfall.

PS4 on the other hand hasn't even begun... It begins the 20th this month with the order, followed by bloodborne in march and what they announce at E3 + Uncharted 4 for later this year.

Only 40%? Are they serious. The PS4 sold 75% more units last year than the XBO did, and the only reason it wasn't more was because of the price cut to $350 that gave it a massive holiday boost in the U.S. Assuming there isn't a huge adjustment, VGC is indicating that the PS4 has so far sold 90% more units than the XBO globally last month. The XBO did not retain its momentum at $350 in the U.S., and the PS4 has yet to receive a price cut, though it will likely get one this year. If the PS4 is reduced to $300 this year, its sales will take off, plus it would put tremendous pressure on MS. Would they reduce the XBO to $250 this year just stay below parity, or will they go with a much more modest reduction to $300 just to keep from falling too far behind? Would they just focus on pricing in the U.S. & UK and chalk up other regions as lost causes, or do they really think it has a change anywhere outside the Anglophone world? I doubt they want to hurt the system's profitability that much. I think they'd rather sell 40 million units and make a little bit of money than sell 50 million and lose a bunch of money.

In any case, if the PS4-to-XBO ratio is what it is right now, then there's no way in hell the PS4 is only going to outsell the XBO by a mere 40%. The gap in Anglophone nations isn't close enough, and in all other regions combined the PS4 has a commanding majority of the market share. In all likelihood, the PS4 will outsell the XBO at least two-to-one globally. I think a more likely end point for the two is the XBO selling 40-45 million and the PS4 selling 90-100 million.

glad you said it all.  This is pretty much 100% the situation

Thank you for your choice of words to make it easy to categorize

I stay with my prediction : PS4 = 120+ M / X1 = 75+M by the end of both Consoles.
