Forums - Sony - PlayStation price cut VS added value from Sony.

So I hear a lot of talk around Sony doing a price cut this year for the ps4 and that's seems like a good idea at least initially. I would think a much better option would be let's say a $350 500gb option and at the same time add a 1tb version for $400 as well  as keeping the higher price and giving better value at the same time.  With today's big game sizes I would think this would be something they would be looking into for a long time but probably didn't want to put a console out there for $450 and be the more expensive one, or at least after starting out lower actually jump higher than the Xbox one.

Those are my thoughts, what do you guys think.

Absolutely. They've already had a couple internal revisions that have cut down on cost and with larger capacity GDDR5 RAM incoming they will most likely be able to cut again. That means they can sell at $350 by September and still turn a profit. If you look at 1tb HDDs on Amazon they're less than $50 more than a 500gb (some are only $10 more than their 500gb counterparts) so Sony would make a nice chunk of change on the high end model considering they pay a lot less, being a corporate entity, to upgrade the size.

For 2015 I'd push for $299 base model. People seem to respond more to lower price of entry than to adding to the system. Maybe down the road just switch over to terabyte HDD when cost difference is negligible.

i think 330$ would be a good respond by sony

I feel like they could do this at E3 or even sooner. Hell I almost find it odd that they haven't done it yet. There is a lot stupid people that just want the manufacture to put the bigger hard drive in for them so I'm sure there are people that aren't buying waiting for the next hdd bump to purchase. Also the ps3 had a lot of HDD jumps along the way it only seems fair to assume that Sony would have started this maybe at the Tokyo game show even last year.

I think that probably to far for sony to go given thier financial situation.  If they did they would absolutly have to go $300 500gb and $350 1TB.  I think best case scenero you could ask for would be $325 500gb and $375 1TB and there would probably a lot of game bundeling at the $375 to the higher revenue for Sony.

My theory is between E3 and Gamescom. E3 due towards Arkahm Knight, with a possible bundle. Doing so would help soar PS4 sales heading into Gamescom. If done at Gamescom, chances are that the Arkahm Knight bundle will be out by then, and Sony can have not only a great Gamescom, like they usually do, but end it on a high note. In addition, the fall season is one of their strongest; ultimately adding further evidence towards this. My biggest reason however, lies in the upcoming holiday rush. If the PS4 is to get a pricecut by then, it would be a preemptive strike towards Microsoft, which would then lead up towards another competitive holiday season. If a pricecut should happen before then, I could see a $299.99 PS4 bundle. Again, these are hypothetical, bit I still believe this is a good possibility.

having 2 skus makes sense and is pretty common in the console space but the important part is to lower the price of entry. massive harddrives are only good for people that are downloading a lot. many people would much rather just keep their money.

Imo they should go hard these holyday with a 300$ 500GB bundle with an online multiplayer game and only 15/30 days of psplus recoup the loss.

Maybe develop/fund/advertise/bundle more local multiplayer games to make moneyz out of pad sales too.

350$ 1TB this holyday should also be doable, and attract people who didn't buy a ps4 last year.

I don't think we are ever going to see Sony actively support multiple PS4 skus this generation. Just too much hassle. So I don't think we will ever see a 1TB SKU alongside a 500GB SKU. Somewhere down the road a 750GB or even a 1TB SKU is likely to replace the 500GB and for as long as 500GB stock remains there will be multiple skus on the market but that's it.

I also believe the first official price cut Sony makes to the PS4 will be down to $299. no point dropping down to $350 when MS would just drop to $250. Dropping to $299 will force MS to match them in price, though i suspect ms will do that and throw in a game or two. No matter what though, ms knows better than to sell at the same price with the PS4.
