Shigeru? Created some of the greatest games for video consoles ever. And Metacritics is the fair judge on this one. My gaming experience would have been a lesser one without his games.

I'm going to have to ask for a reason on that one. Gabe's done like... one great thing in one genre then built off that. (As far as i know.)

Miyamoto's done a bunch of great things in many genres... some of which he practically invented.

Even the developers themselves when polled will tell you overwhelmingly that Miyamoto is and was the best.

He is a legend.

Proud owner of all three consoles and handhelds.

Heroes are remembered, but legends live forever. At the top of the Game Dev legend list: Shigeru Miyamoto. He is #1, #2, #3.... and then it picks up with other "lesser" Legends... Lord British is perhaps in the top 10...

But yeah... Miyamoto is above and beyond the greatest game developer past, present, and for the foreseeable future.

The biggest thing about Miyamoto is that he's still very humble and doesn't want the "star power" that other western developers jump after.

Everyone says Miyamoto is rich from his games, etc etc, but he doesn't want that and prefers a normal life.

According to IMDB: "On his own will, he doesn't receive a higher salary than the other developers on Nintendo"

You have to respect that, I have a hard time seeing all the other top developers doing that.

Put it this way: How many other developers created a game more than 20 years ago that is still more fun and highly regarded than any other in its' genre today?

Miyamoto is a great reflection of humble Japanese culture. The West wants its fame... but some people in the world still just want to pay their respects to things greater than themselves. I see Miyamoto as doing just that. More people that have Miyamoto's humility and personality in this world, and especially in the Western culture, would be an fantastic thing. I hope he lives for another lifetime.

"He is also an extremely humble man, who really believes that games are a team effort, and refuses to take a higher salary than his coworkers.  He lives within a few kilometers from his corporate job, revered as Nintendo’s chief game designer.  He travels by bicycle, through the densely congested streets to his job.  "
