arcane_chaos said: I'm actually going to say not this year but definitely next year with a 1TB PS4 slim. The PS4 seems to be absolutely beasting and there's really no competition to thwart its progress, we see the PS4 coming out on top of Jan NPD in spite of the XB1 going back to $350 and it's complete domination on a worldwide basis. I think Sony can ride the $400 price tag for one more year and have the titles to support them through 2015. The only way I think Sony drops the price this year is if the XB1 goes to $300-$330 permanently. |
I agree that there will be a 1TB model next year. 2016 most likely is the PS4's "Blitzkrieg" so to speak. In addition, if Witcher 3 is any indication of what's to come in terms of download sizes, then Sony will be prepared by then.
However, I personally believe that Sony will cut the price during E3 since the exclusive marketing deal with RockSteady will be in high gear by then or Gamescom since Sony commands such a large presence in Europe. Microsoft, as you stated, will counter in 2-3 days after these announcements or go crazy during the holidays like they did last holiday season. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see a $279.99 variation; provided if that price cut down to $300 happens shortly after Sony's.
I am not discrediting your statement, but adding hypotheticals as to why I believe the price cut of the original model will happen.
Quick Edit: Samsung's newer and cost effective 20nm GPU die should also indicate an imminent price cut soon.
