Reviews aren't always going to fit your view. And reviewers do have to criticize areas you frankly may not care about. So in Dying Light's case, some people will dock it for being somewhat unoriginal and having a poor narrative. You may not care, but this is necessary to create a system to puts the spotlight on truly great games. Or at least that is the idea.

It's always been a mistake to take reviews to seriously. It's nothing to do with this gen in particular. Just try and figure out, from the information given, whether it's the kind of game you might enjoy and whether issues raised might bother you.

I kind of like reviews by youtube personalities because, even though I might disagree with them, I build a sense what their tastes are as a gamer and can use that to aid my judgement of the review.

When it's down to reviews it;s all opinions and potatoes, it doesn't matter what they think of the game, what matters to you is how the game feels and plays to your own thoughts and opinions about it, I stopped caring about mainstream reviews a long time ago, now all I do is look up footage of the games I'm wanting to buy and wait for people like Angry Joe, Total Biscuit and Jim Sterling to see what they think of the games they review or play, Total Biscuit is a good source of info on games when it comes to PC for his port reports, I don't care what he thinks about the games because he's pretty cynical in general but he has good sources of information about the games he plays whilst mainstream reviews just scream "must have" or "too much water" to me.

Also I'm really tired of the whole number score crap and everything having to rely on metascoring, all that does is cause massive silly debates about what game is amazing factually when we all know it's going to be subjective every time ebcause it's all down to opinions, people think halo is shit despite it's reviews and scores, same with TLOU, look at the hype and hate they all get all the time even with reviewers doing previews, it's still all opinion.

Reviewers in general has always been a joke. Just make the decision yourself when you buy a game.

Excuse me? Were you alive during the 7th gen? That was the most ridiculous generation ever, as far as scores and reviews are concerned.

In previous Gens I never bought games under 80 meta because I thought they were not worth my time. dying Ligh, AC Unity, and Desting all scored between 71-76 and have be 3 of the best I have played.
