Users saying only +10k YOY for XBO isn't good, for price reasons, are ''forgetting'' the 2 weeks at 400.
This is also true.

onamazon the price hike and cut barely affected the sales. There was nothing to sugggest increased demand. And 7% (that's the real number) up YOY is very bad considering the reduction in the price. Plus it wasn't supply constraint last January.
It's not a pretty picture because if it only stays 50$ cheaper than PS4 it's likely going to lose easily to the PS4 until Halo 5 releases. It has no Titanfall this year or nealry as much scope to reduce the price or unbundle kinect like they did last year.

Still more than 1 year ago, 400 with no games. Now is giving 2 games on Amazon, these aren't good signs. Even with new incentives is down almost 100k yoy. See? I can twist the other way as well. |
@ALL
Two free games/extra value(Ps+/xbl) don't count for shite to the average uninformed consumer. Entry price does. That is why I don't count free stuff/bundles.
And don't get it twisted, price =/= value. Being given free TLOU/MCC presents no value to those who were not going to buy it anyway.

Nobody forgot.
3 weeks at 350
2 weeks at 400
Still only 10k more than 500.
Plus no momentum after record holiday november and december. dont forget that.

January is just 4 weeks.... just saying.
After 2 months at 350, the sales on the half the month must have been terrible.. even so it managed to recover against a non supply constrain first january and still win. Great result.

Well they have a point. XBO is only +10K YOY, while being $100 cheaper + free games for 2 weeks YOY + $150 cheaper + same 2 free games for another 2 weeks YOY.
PS4 too is also down 80K YOY while including 1 Free games for most of the month and some days had 2 games or 1 game + PS.
But after the "Xbox got the momentum going", "Xbox is getting the US back", I am pretty sure things are looking much worse for Xbox one even while being up 10K YOY and PS4 being down 80K, cause with the "momentum" going their side, they still lost January NPD.

XBO sales after going up in price must have been horrible, I mean, it was cheaper for 2 whole months. No one in their right mind would buy it. In the end it only got 2 weeks on ''momentum sales'' and it managed to do better without titanfall hype on the horizon.
Ps4 is the one supposed to be selling on record pace, not XBO. I have different expectations for both.

Undoubtedly, the XB1 did better after the price went back down. However, looking at Amazon's rankings for February, it's just not enough. Microsoft's exclusive marketing for Evolve didn't help and The Order: 1886 is on the horizon. As for the PS4, apparently we have different expectations for the system. I expected it to drop YOY, so I found the NPD results unsurprising. You had higher expectations, so obviously, you have interpreted the results differently.

Wait so the PS4 who just lost 2 NPD months, and was down YOY in November, who has been the most expensive console since then except for 2 weeks in January, and you have different expectation for both!!!
So tell me what is your expectation for both of them then? the PS4 at $400 and the Xbox One at $350

Win what? Software? And if we're being specific.
Potential hardware impacting events in January:
Summary
XB1 Holiday $50 price drop ends, so price increase to $400 - Jan. 3 (12 days)
New 3DSXL announced for U.S. release on Feb. 13 - Jan. 15 (17 days)
XB1 price dropped back to $350 - Jan. 16 (16 days)
PS4 TLOU bundle $400 - Jan. 23 (9 days)
It's not "great" by any stretch of the word. "Deserved" maybe? This NPD only exposes problems for both.
Waning demand for the PS4 means Sony needs to get their butts in gear and release some games/price cut and deals/add features/ etc.
Poor momentum for XB1 sales rate means they have to boost the value proposition and maintain their sales rate.
Unless of course, "closing the gap" has gone the way of "competing in a country other than us/uk" and "competing world wide"? Can we just wrap up closing the US gap, to increasing YoY on its previous dismal year now?
Hell, might as well call the gen right now.
