Well that makes it even worse. If the XB1 can't maintain momentum, then that doesn't bode well for the future months.

My gosh some of you guys are hilarious. So going up 7% from last January is not keeping momentum, but losing 30% is, that you for the logic.

No matter how you want to look at it a 7% increase comming of the back of a record breaking holliday season while Xbox one is beeing sold at a cheaper price and with a bunch of free games is very bad. A 30% drop for Sony is not good in anyway but was kinda expected, PS4 is more expensive than the competition and the novelty wore off already.

The PS4 could not meet demand last holidays so it's jan-mar were bolstered by unfulfilled demand. The XB1 was easy to find holiday 2013 so the fact it only had a 7% increase is bad. This year the XB1 has nothing for the next 7-8 months where as last year it had Titanfall in March and Un bundling in June. At a 150 dollar cheaper entry point than a year ago one should expect a much higher baseline than +7%.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

PS4 back to number one in the US. Should be an even bigger gap between the 2 in the US with The Order releasing this month.

This is true, and we can expect to see them to move in opposite directions during the year.

Basic freaking logic, PS4 sold unusualy high early 2014 due to not meeting launch demend till around march more or less.

Xbox1 price fell by a 150 $ and has two free games value (50$+), so a 7% is nothing great.

Well, people choose to see the things by the side they find it better. That's just how it is. At least the PS3 is hinting well enough the consistent between it sales and shippment numbers, so that's okay, I just hope Sony do a price cut by this E3. A new model would be awesome but seems more like a wish than reality to me, I would love to get a tiny PS3 as I got with the PS1 and PS2. My SuperSlim is comfortably small but I would love that to happen.

Yea, the PS3 is long overdue for a pricecut.  I would imagine a cut would come with the PS4's cut to $299/$349.  Hopefully a cut to $149 for the 12GB SKU and $199 for the 500GB SKU. Especially if the PS4 cuts to $299.  A 500GB PS3 for only $50 less is way too much to ask for.    And I'm sure the PS3 revisions are over.  2 is enough.

XB1 & Wii U overtracked then? I'm not surprised about XB1, it was obvious that XB1 & PS4 were not neck-in neck in January as VGC has been tracking.

So, it appears the XBO is up only 7% from last January. Not too great considering it's $150 cheaper than it was last January. But the PS4 is down almost 30%. While this isn't unprecedented — the Wii was down big time in its second January compared to its first — and it certainly isn't bad numbers-wise considering it's still at $400, but I think if it's still down YoY through the rest of the quarter, Sony may institute a price cut by this summer. The PS2's first price cut was in May 2002, while the PS1 & PS3 already had their first price cuts in their first year. Even with solid games, sales aren't going to grow until they cut the price.

Dat spin, only a select few can try to make a 7% increase look bad and a 30% decrease look good.

The decrease in price was a lot bigger percentage than the increase in sales.  No spin in that, just simple maths

Sony knew what it was doing all along, they never fell to the pressure of a price cut due to xbox one higher sales in the holiday. The next holiday will be the perfect time to implement a price cut to counter any desperate measure by Microsoft.
