It would make sense though for the 20gig Premium to replace the Arcade SKU. It's just too bad that there are 360s out there without a hard drive.

I wouldn't worry too much about lack of an HD on all models if I were a software publisher.  If a 360 Arcade owner really wants a particular game that requires a hard drive, it can be added.  It's not like the low-end PS3s that were missing wireless but it couldn't be added, missing BC hardware that couldn't be added, etc.

The problem here is MS policy. Before a game can get the stamp of approval from MS, it has to work on all 360's. It's not up to the publisher to determine if they want to require a hard drive or not. At the moment, they have to assume no hard drive.

MS could change this policy, but currently they have not.

i bet that when the possible 60gb console replaces the 20gb, the price will go up...

anyway i might pick one up when gears 2 comes and onnly if they cut the price of xbox live.

That's never going to happen. It's worth 50 bucks though. It's a great service.

Personally, I think waiting is good. They still have a reliability issue, so if you don't really care about anything on it until Gears 2, waiting is probably worth it.

WOW, now will this be after the price drop or will this be an alternative for the price drop.

A $50 price drop and a bigger hard drive would be a MASSIVE sales driver if they did it before GTAIV.

Without all the compulsory installs on PS3, 60gb would be enough to take advantage of the media downloads.

FRom day one MS stated that all developers were told to create games as if the HDD was there. I have never heard of them telling developers anything different. That couldn't be true if there are certain games that require the HDD.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

If they gave the Arcade a 20gb hard drive, it would be the perfect way to get fence-sitters to buy the cheapest 360 for the DLC of GTA.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Yes of course I'd not thought of that.  It would be the perfect way to encourage an upgrade.  But there is one problem.  MrStick reckons it costs about the same amount to produce 20gb as it does the 60gb.

They can't sell the Arcade much cheaper if it costs the same amount to make.

Would they dump it altogether?

thekitchensink,

I agree : If they do this that would be a big win for MS. Arcade would have a largely increase value.

Link to proof please?  I always understood developers had to develop as if HDD drive wasn't there (hence their griping on this topic).  HDD can be assumed for online play - i.e. Burount Paradise offline no HDD required but HDD required for online.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
