Forums - Sales - Playstation 3 sales ( 2015 vs 2014 )

I think Sony is more than happy to see people move on quickly from last gen to current gen. Not sure what the PS3 would have to get down to in order to not turn a profit, but my guess is we will never see a sub $100 model like the PS2 enjoyed late in its life span.

PS4 on the other hand...

Maybe if it gets another price cut it can reach 3m this year. If things keep going like this, i can see max 2m

A price drop needs to happen for it to take off in developing countries.

I really can't believe that some people are still entertaining the idea of the PS3 catching the Wii, there were quite a few who cited the PS2's sales after the PS3's launch as proof that the PS3 would "win" the 7th gen on overtime.

yes because PS2 received price drops to keep its price away from the 7th gen consoles.  PS3 just keeps staying the same despite the price.  It should have been half the price of PS4 for the same HDD.  So basically $200 for 500gb, $180 for 250gb, and $150 for 12gb.  Instead they are strangely keeping it high.  Funny how people only talk about hardware profit with this yet when Xbox 1 gets a price cut it's all "they'll make up for it in software."  Ummm....same principal applies to both.  Sure there isn't much software left to come out but digital and physical legacy hardware will do wonders and it's a lot cheaper than PSNow to just buy it all with a PS3.  I feel like they just wanna push PSNow and PS4 so they're keeping it high but they could have sales for both and especially in developing nations.  Not sure what Sony is doing right now with this they don't seem to want PS3 to do well at the end.  Should have been $200 at the end of 2013.

PS3 don't have PS2 legs confirmed?

yeah because PS2 was under $150 by this time.  PS3 is still $250 for the model anyone wants.  They just aren't trying with the pricing and as a result the RoW sales are dead still.  Shoulda been half the price of the PS4 when PS4 launched (for the 500gb)

Old consoles have a very big second hand market, even people who buy new PS3 will be getting less games new than Xbox One or PS4 buyers. It makes much more sense to subsidize a new system, as long as subventions dont get to big.
Compared to 360 and PS3 MS wont make a big loss with One. At the same time there is no expensive RoD debacle.

I just hope the ps3 price drops when the expected pricedrop of the ps4 comes this year. Imagine a ps4 at 350 and a ps3 at 250. Thats just crazzy and would nt sell another unit.. new at least.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

If Sony makes a pricecut and a Minecraft bundle I can see it doing 3M this year.

Are you aware that Mojang had been purchased by Microsoft ? So I guess negotiating for a bundle with them right now is really absurd.

It would be good if some tech expert or Digital Foundry could update the PS3 bill of materials. It's weird that an almost 9 years old console is still sold for $200.
