Forums - Gaming - What would you guys think of a 30fps/60fps toggle on most console games?

If this was the case PC games wouldn't be allowed to go to 120fps because it would be 'unfair' for those who don't have 120hz monitors/TV's. That is a null point. This option give people choice. Therefore you can play at 30fps because you believe it to be 'fine' this doesn't take that option away from you.

so what you are saying is if I'm running a game online at 120 fps and you are running at 60fps we will see things at the same time? Wrong, I will see things before you, it maybe a millisecond I'm too lazy to do the math but it is an advantage, how ever small, then if you get into pings and it will come down to who has the highest framerate and bed ping. And my point will be proved when Microsoft launch cross platform gaming with pc and xbox one. Then we will know for sure.

No I'm saying that differences happen, and that it is not a reason to not give gamers a choice in their framerate.

no its more like saying Rafael nadal got sand in his eyes. Look we will find out when cross platform gaming launches on the xbox one,

No its not. If there's a toggle option, which is the entire point of this thread, then you're choosing to have the worse experience by actively choosing a bad framerate over a good one. You're choosing to handicap yourself happily, and worse, with the misguided idea that it makes the experience better.

I am *NOT* thinking of a typical PC style graphic’s settings menu.

What I’m referring to is a simple checkbox that says 30fps and one that says 60fps and the 60fps toggle makes whatever visual compromises needed (predetermined by devs) for the game to run at 60fps.

This is for those who would choose 60fps over a loss in visual quality or those who would choose 30fps for an increase in visual quality.

Please let me know if this is insane and why it would never work as I may be missing something here, but it sounds simple to me.

I don't think this will happen as it would take way more effort for devs to keep either locked. This means devs would develop for both targets and you have to take in designers so you don't cut off elements that should still be there.

I don't say you then have to develop the game twice but the effort to give you both options is way too high and won't bring much more money, if any.

If there is a PC version of the game it would be far less difficult. But I see your point.

id always pick 30fps

I'd probably do the same. It would be mainly genre specific for me.

if a game is pretty much locked at 30fps then i am perfectly fine with it. give me a cleaner, higher res and higher AA image and better effects and im very happy thank you.

The two advantages consoles always had over pc's are that they have a constant standard across the board and the pick up and play. So you want to take the standard out? If you want that option buy a pc.

well for single player I agree with you. But not for online. There are too many valuables as it is, no need to add in anymore.

There are always variables. The funny thing about this variable is that you can actually choose which one. You can also choose button layout, sensitivitey, if you wear a headset and how good it is, scuff controllers, etc. Changeable framerate is nothin compared to this, you're grasping at straws with that argument. You can just leave it at our preference for 30fps.

sure while we are changing fps's why stop there Why dont we give the option to add more ram, a better gpu, a faster cpu and a faster harddrive.
