Forums - Nintendo - Release Wii in China and other developing markets/countries

I seriously think that Nintendo should release the Wii in China and other developing markets/countries. In my mind they could still profit a lot from the Wii. So many people doesn't even know it exists and I imagine a similar hype among the gaming community to be seen, but not as big as it was when it originally released of course. The price would be at an attractive and affordable price here and the game library is huge and the gaming style is very different. I imagine it would be possible to have a launch price of $50-100, and they could even include a HDD. And the games I believe they could sell really "cheap", $5-10 per game to make the price attractive as well. Everyone can afford this. And when it comes to graphics this would not be a limitation for it as most people that play games are familiar with smartphone and Korean MMORPG/FPS, which are not that up to date on graphics. I know I have made a similar thread about PS3 or X360, but I think that Wii would have a better chance to break into this market. Agree or disagree?

The problem with that is piracy. The Wii is very easy to hack or mod, and having into account the massive uses of piracy in China and in other areas, sales would only focus on software (if they focus at all). Also, Nintendo had a console in China, the Nintendo iQue (basically a modded N64). And I don't know if it made a profit.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I think they're just going to sell a small iphone shaped handheld (with buttons) when the next platform releases that only plays old VC games up to the N64 (maybe the GCN too) and indies, and sell that for $100. So no Wii.

Whatever they're doing there, they want it to be a part of their new platform.

I think it would kinda make sense, despite the fact that most Wiis would be soft-modded instantly - potentially, given the market size, they could sell lot of hardware, plus make that huge audience more aware of their brand for future consoles.

Nintendo need to do something in china thats for sure. Dont know why they not releasing wii u over there

Wii in China?

Agree!
cheap - easy - revolutionary!

Switch!!!

The Wii could be easily pirated, but new audiences will be introduced to the Nintendo franchises.
A percentage of that audience will buy the next hardware if they liked it.
Piracy is another reason of Sony's and Wii/DS popularity.

They would sell a lot even if you couldn't pirate it. But seeing as you can it would probably sell enough to overtake the ps1. Not going to happen though.

It isn't selling anything since 2012. PS360 reached the same price point and the original Wii is to outdated at this point to still be viable.

Yeah I can agree with what you people say. But regarding the iQue Nintendo released here, I didn't even know it existed until I read about it years later on a foreign website. I call that lousy marketing. But we see the same with Wii U now so Nintendo can't really be pleased with their marketing results so far. The Wii sold itself so I guess they were lucky that time.

And regarding piracy, yes this is a problem concerning profit. But I think with the Wii they should be able to push down the costs and the final sales price to consumers should be low and attractive.

I think the main reason that people download and/or buy pirated games is because they can't afford them and also for the ease of use. So if the price goes down people could afford to buy the games and the system. And some still pirate still of course. A lot probably, but less than if the game cost $60.

And if they could earn money on each sold console the software and other things would be a plus.
