Forums - Gaming - Would You be Ok with XBL and PSN becoming their Own Platform (Part 2)

As in my previous thread I asked if you would be ok with PS Now going to PC which most people seem ok with

But what about Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.  Would you be ok with them becoming their own platform and making their way to PC?  This basically means that they would be able to offer their vast libary of games on a digital network without the need of their own self made hardware.

I still believe that this is the future but I don't think it would stop Xbox and PlayStation from being made either.  After all those are for a the mass market.  The one problem I could see is cross-platform with multiplayer shooter because mouse/keyboard vs controller.  But they oculd just make it to where those games don't have cross play.

And of course even though i think it may be the future you all may disagree which is fine.  So give me your thoughts on why or why dont you think it should happen.

Maybe not their own platform, but I'd love to have some kind of bridge between Xbox Live and Playstation Network services. Imagine making a party of X1/PS4 players to do some online matches. It would be awesome!

It'd also encourage to step up leaderboards in gaming.

As long as I can still buy dedicated PS and Xbox hardware I'm ok with it.

Though if I had a choice, I would much prefer it didn't happen

Like the OP, I believe it's just a matter of time. So, I won't bother fighting the inevitable. About the only thing we can do is vote with our wallets on how these things get implemented. We had all better hope that there is atleast a xbox and playstation version. And if things go right, there will be a Nintendo version too. If there isn't at least 2 of them, gamers will get screwed.

It is near the end of the end....

nope consoles should remain consoles, if they do it i hope they make it like apple and offer different versions of consoles that you can also upgrade with graphics cards and ram like the old mac pro.

My online systems: Mac M4 Apple sillicon+16 GB, PC Vega 56+Amd Ryzen+32GB DDR4, Xbox Series X, PS4 Pro, Switch Lite, Playstation Vita TV, PS3, PSP

My retro systems: Wii U, DSi, Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, PS1, Sega Saturn, Neo Geo AES, SNES, Evercade

Having ping over control input is pretty much unacceptable for almost every game, at least for me. As hardware gets cheaper and cheaper and there's no workaround for ping, I wish they'd just give up the idea. Although i wouldn't mind if they sold some visual novels on psnow.

I personally feel like these services work because they're on their own consoles. For sure, at some point there's a high chance that we're going to have PC versions of these systems, but I think they'd need to be altered somewhat to make it viable.

For now I'm fine with them as they are.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Yup.

i dont realy care, another highly overpriced service without games... does every publisher need his own service?

i think you need to clarify your point,.. like a lot.   the bold statement fundamentally isn't true.  it's why the word "port" exists because the games on ps4 or xbox can't be played on PC directly.   ..they have to be ported first.

even with the window's 10 thing only universal apps are availible across platforms.  for gamers on consoles that means having games lose access to a significant portion of the hardware's processing power to make room for the middle teir software.   the con of being hardware agnostic is needing hardware that is much higher spec'd for the same performance.   basically your pushing "costs" from the developer to the consumer.

so am i okay with paying a higher price for a console so that PC guys can have better access to pirate the exclusives i enjoy?   no,..
