Forums - Sales Discussion - UPDATE: PS4 doubles xbox by Sept. 27m vs 14m?

How in the world are you guys going to decide who was right and who was wrong? MS is being excessively shy with its Xbone sell-through numbers and you're all assuming that VGC's #s are accurate, which many people on gaf are doubting. People on gaf are putting Xbone sell-through numbers at 9m - 9.5m.

Seriously, 11m sell-through for Xbone is bullcrap. No way Xbone is past 10m.

You do know that AMD has already confirmed a combined sell-through of 30mn PS4+X1 at the end of 2014, right? And we already know the sell-through numbers for PS4.

Hmmm... With the imminent China release, it could come close, but doubling it seems unlikely. I'm really looking forward though to seeing how PS4 does post China release along with it's pretty solid lineup for the year.

That has been on my mind alot, lately. Both Nintendo and Sony have given out their official numbers already, but MS has only given us total number shipped between XBone and 360. I'm not even sure why MS is being so shy about it.

They confirmed that it's almost at 30m, not 30m exactly. 27m can be "close" to 30m.

I myself don't take the AMD news fo absolute truth, but saying 27m is just wishful thinking. I think it sucks that MS are combining shipments, just like Sony did with PS3+PS2, but just going by shipments point toward MS shipping north of 12M. Or do you think 360 hardly dropped anything YOY and absolutely pulverized PS3? Because that would be the only other logical (however unlikely) answer. But I am guessing you don't like that idea either :).

Sounds like a suicidal bet. Remember, the PS4 is a fad.

lool, this.

Seriously though it not even the PS4 numbers that few me off, its how little you expect the xbox to sell by august.I expect it to average 400k a month, I expect 3m sales in by that period of time at MINIMUM. I expect X1 numbers to be 14m-16m come august. Lots of system sellers arriving before then (and yes, I mean 3rd party). Not crazily unrealistic that PS4 could double it, I just don't see it happening. Recently saw a rumour that Uncharted 4 is due in July, not gonna happen but if it did then I'd be more willing to side with you.

Meh, this is easy, and this is why:

Up to Sep last year the PS4 and XBO sold ~6m and 2.2m respectively, during this period the only real game of note to come to the PS4 was Infamous. Meanwhile XBO got Titanfall, whilst also getting a $100 price drop. This year XBO has neither of these, whilst PS4 has a LOT more. So whilst XBO MIGHT be up, it won't be up a great deal, whereas the PS4 is almost certain to be up. Personally I'm predicting the PS4 to hit 10m by September, whilst the XBO will only hit at an absolute maximum 3m, meaning the PS4 will have doubled the XBO sales. However more likely I expect 8m Ps4 and 2m XBO.

@ the bolded you're expecting X1 to be down YOY? How given Q1/Q2 games line up? Last year it dropped as low as 40k around the price cut period, those numbers simply aren't happening in 2015.

You're overlooking a lot of important things: PS4 japanese launch, Watchdogs exclusive marketing, The last of US, PS4 capitalising on the general weakness of the X1 (its in a much better position this year), the sales drop that proceded the official price cut, the fact that the X1 price cut wasn't undercutting sony like it is now. All of this has been reflected in the holiday sales.

It'll double YTD numbers but not LTD.

400k a month? Try 200k and that would still be an optimist's guess.

The Xbone sells 100k - 150k/month in the US from Jan - June. For the Xbone to sell 400k/month in the early months means that the US:ROW ratio is less than .6 for the Xbone, which is highly implausible.
