I'll do the first half now and the more recent ones later:

NES: Ninja Gaiden II: The cutscenes in that game were mostly stills (with some sliding to make them more dynamic) but when you're used to your character being only a handful of pixels, these big full screen renditions were breathtaking!

SNES: Star Fox and Donkey Kong Country: Both these games pushed the SNES to its limits, the first one with it's 3D graphics powered by the Super FX chip and the other one with "Advance Computer Modeling" which produced some stunning models for DK.

N64: Super Mario 64, "It's a me, Mario" and boom that giant face you could toy with! Mindblown!
PS1: Final Fantasy VII. Those CG cutscenes and yes there was a time that even the in-game graphics were impressive.

Whenever I hear about the NES Ninja Gaiden games, the cutscenes are always one of the big things noted as being one of the best things to be introduced into video games. I missed out on Star Fox, but DKC was an awesome game with such awesome visuals at the time! I liked how Rare pushed the limits. And that Mario face! I forgot to talk about that too! Playing with his face was so awesome! And hearing Mario speak for the first time was so great!

Panama:

Even as an idort, God of War 3's sense of scale still impresses me.

I never played GoW3, but yeah, I have to give props to some of the moments in that game. Just really amazing visuals that happened in the game. I remember a massive god-like character attacking you as you progress through the stage. Pretty mind blowing stuff.

Are you kidding me?? Silent Hill 2 in general was just pure excellence~ It definitely frightened me the most, if not "Wowed!"

I'm not sure I follow what you're getting at, here.

Sorry, I just meant to say that the whole game was quite "Wow!" Sorry for the confusion~

3rd Gen: Every game seemed fresh and new. There was always the Arcades to give a glimpse of "what might be". That was where you saw games so advanced, you would NEVER be able to play them at home.

4th Gen: Games like F-Zero, Pilotwings, Donkey Kong Country, Demon's Crest, Axelay--there was a quantum leap in graphical quality that just blew me away. Neo Geo was a mythical creature of insane power.

5th Gen: I saw the CGI of Tekken and my jaw hit the floor. Games like Mario 64 and Wave Race set the bar and games like Metal Gear Solid and Ocarina of Time raised it! It was when games got easier but more complex at the same time.

6th Gen: SSX, MGS2, Halo, Luigi's Mansion, etc. Games went from crude 3D to looking pretty damned good. Shenmue on Dreamcast was so realistic, you could see the ridges on fingers! I thought games would NEVER look better than this. That whole era was about making gamess look and play better and better.

7th Gen: On the graphics side of things, games like Gears of War, God of War 3, Alan Wake, RE5, and Tomb Raider (2013) amazed. But this gen wasn't just about beautiful and refined visuals. Motion controls, online play, downloadable games, Achievements--it was like everything we dared to dream about was there at our fingertips. Vidoe chatting, sending games to friends (via Wii gifting), custom soundtracks. With games and gameplay perfected, what would the future hold?

8th Gen: Still waiting to be wowed. Forza Horizon 2, maybe? Wii U hit with great games and an innovative new interface but aside from that, the 8th gen has failed to blow my mind. No feelings of wonder just yet.

I think the first time I saw Super Mario Galaxy on the wii I was like 'pfffff who needs HD? Other games that come to mind are things like The last Of Us, Silent Hill and Skyward Sword.

Delicious, delicious games.

I'll just stick to the last gen. The games that really blew me away and left a permanent impression:

-Xenoblade Chronicles: That world is just remarkable.
-Mario Galaxy 1&2: Just the most creative level design and gameplay mechanics we've ever seen.
-Skyrim: It can't be understated how big an impact this game had. It really just forced every other developer to aim much higher with their world design. Just an unbelievably dense and interesting fantasy world.
-Mass Effect 1&2 : A huge step forward in interactive storytelling. These felt like the videogame equivalent of Star Wars. Just don't bother with the finale.

Genesis: Sonic 2. Woooow so fast!

Sega CD: Sonic CD. The music!

N64: Super Mario 64. Now that's a true real-time 3D, fast loading & smoothed textured!

PC: Quake. Fully 3D first person shooter blew my mind, then 3dfx Voodoo came to support.... 60 frame motherfu--king per second plus smoothed textured!

GCN: Super Mario Sunshine & Wind Waker: IMPROVEMENT OF 3D & VIVID COLOR!!!

PC(yes again): Half-life 2 & Doom 3. PHYSIC & SHADERS!!!

That's it. This is where the end of generation i "Wow!"ed.

Was there really nothing that really impressed you in the 7th generation? There were quite a number of excellent games there. Anything come close?

Well, the 7th generation was pretty... Man, what can i say. It was weird, i had ps3, xbox 360 & wii with games back then.... I tried Halo 3, Gear of war & crackdown on xbox 360 hmm feels heavy. I tried Uncharted, GTA 4, dead space & silent hill on ps3... Instant turned off. At last Wii... Mario Kart, Warioware, Smash brawl & Mario party used for party just for fun & laugh.

I gotta admit, i had 89 unopened games combined ps3/x360 from 2007 to 2011 then sold them... Yes, i was stuck playing old PC games & busy collecting old games or old consoles that i missed out. Don't worry, i have 3DS, Wii U & Xbox One, so yeah... These 8th generation consoles(except Xbox One, this is just a backup) are actually wowed me due to new tricks like Wii U gamepad you play it off-TV & Super Smash Bros on handheld 3DS... Now that's a new thing
