I'll just stick to the last gen. The games that really blew me away and left a permanent impression:
-Xenoblade Chronicles: That world is just remarkable.
-Mario Galaxy 1&2: Just the most creative level design and gameplay mechanics we've ever seen.
-Skyrim: It can't be understated how big an impact this game had. It really just forced every other developer to aim much higher with their world design. Just an unbelievably dense and interesting fantasy world.
-Mass Effect 1&2 : A huge step forward in interactive storytelling. These felt like the videogame equivalent of Star Wars. Just don't bother with the finale.
