It would be weird if it happened but I don't think it will. The next Nintendo console will come out in 2017, and 2 years later, PS5 and X2 will come out.

It kinda depends on if Gen 8 will be as long as Gen 7 was for Microsoft and Sony. It was an eight year gen for them. If this is the same, then that would mean 2021 for a new console. I'm not sure that will happen...
I could see Nintendo releasing their next home console before the others, but probably not as early as 2017. We haven't heard word of a successor to 3DS yet and I think that'll come first - probably announced next year at the earliest and released around 2017.
An educated guess would be a new home console around 2018, maybe even 2019. They might do an upgraded/more powerful version of the Wii U in the way that they've done with the New 3DS but I doubt we'll see a full-fledged new home console as early as 2017.
Nintendo seems to use the 5 year cycle for their systems, so I could see Microsoft/Sony announcing their systems a few years after

I don't think so. Nintendo will release their Next generation system in 2016 and it will only be slightly stronger than a PS4 or Xbox One. Therefore it will be considered as Gen 8.5. They will then go on to release their real next generation console in 2022 around a year after the release of the PS5 and Xbox 720 ( I like the name ). Either this will happen or they will stick to the Wii U.
I think we could see MS and Sony new hardware as soon as 2017 (I´d bet 2018).
XOne and PS4 are so close to standar PC/Tablets that a archtecture upgrade is much easier than the previous jump.
the wii u will stay the longest, nintendo doesnt need more power atm, 3rd partys do need more power...

isn't that basically what Dreamcast did?

Exactly. It's not like something like this would be unprecedented.
