Dying Light is a game I'm genuinely excited about. I am one of the few that really liked Techland's Dead Island, as well as Riptide, and really consider this to be part 3 of the series (even though the IP stayed at Deep Silver and is in the hands of a new developer scheduled to be released later this year).

The game is out tomorrow (Tuesday, January 27) digitally everywhere, and on disc in Americas only. That is the first odd detail - PAL disc release has been pushed back a month due to "disc production problem".

Almost two months ago, Techland spoke about review embargoes (mostly stemming from AC Unity fiasco) and said that there will not be a review embargo of this game. So, of course, a day before release we have ---- zero reviews. Basically, the way to embargo reviews without actually giving an embargo date is very simple -- just don't send out review copies of the game.

Browsing through the various websites, I've found out that nobody had received review copies, IGN confirmed that as of today they still do not have the game. That is the second odd, and much more worrying detail. (From what I've read, a couple of Polish magazines have played it, but gave out no reviews or scores).

My copy is preloaded, waiting to be activated tomorrow. I am sure I will enjoy it, as much as I enjoyed DI depite all the bugs and glitches.

But, should the rest of you, the ones with no preexisting allegiance to Dead Island, start to worry and postpone the purchase until you have more information?

I've seen a fair few streams of this game now on Playstation Live to suggest a fair few people already have it and just from spending an hour or two watching streams it seems that this game is going to end up pretty good. It may not have scores of high 8s and 9s but if you liked Dead Island then it seems its more of the same (only way way prettier!)

Pretty sure I'll be buying this on physical disc when it comes out in the UK.

I hope Techland have improved as a studio since Dead Island. I just about enjoyed their previous game, but you needed to forgive a lot and I'm not sure I can again. Expecting an eventual meta hovering around 70.

Yes, from what I found out, there are youtube streams, but those are "sponsored" and are not made from review copies, but rather from promo copies with specific instructions of what to talk about.

I am expecting a metascore in the 70s, and as I wrote, I am certain to enjoy it regardless of the scores received.

welp, this game flew under the radar. I didn't realize it was launching so soon.

Hmm I'm not totally sure about that.  The ones i watched yesterday were just regular joes broadcasting it with their cameras on swearing and god knows what (like normal streamers).  They weren't talking about anything really they were just playing.  I'm on about actually on the Live App on PS4, using the PS4 stream service.

Ah, OK, I understand. Well yes, there are disc copies in the US, so surely some of the people already have those...

That is certainly one way for people to look into this game without any "official" feedback from the journalists.

I was worried that the game might turn out to be a stinker but like I said from what I've seen the game looks to be pretty decent.  Nice graphics, seemed pretty stable and smooth as well as far as I could tell anyway.  I'd expect high 7s low 8s for this myself.  But more than good enough for a buy if Dead Island was your thing (which it was mine!)
