There is plenty of room in the PC space for more competitors. Steam has the advantage of being a known name and known sales and a wide library of games. Along with big names advertising Steam such as Counter Strike and DOTA. I can see Xbox doing well on PC as long as Microsoft supports it but I do not see it wiping out Steam.

Plenty of room? Well, Steam get 95% of the sales, so it doesn't look like there is a lot of room. Steam is a know name, but so was Netscape. But the library can help to maintain users.

Counter Strike and DOTA are big names, but so is Halo, Gears, Forza and MS can moneyhat 3rd parties like Tomb Raider. They can be the dirtiest player in the game when they want!

My first thought is that you are either on something or onto something!

With that said,I guess you are on to something. I would venture to guess, that M$ has made a strong effort in the past to buy Steam. When they couldn't work the deal out, they decided to do what you just said, create the same service and over time wipe them out or atleast take a considerable market share.

It is near the end of the end....

Xbox won't be stopping Steam anytime soon.

Sure, this is not an instant victory anyway.  It will take 3-4 years to have enough marketshare with Win10 to even matter anyway.  But, M$ can use their influence to bring more and more games to the Xbox app that are "exclusive" to it on the PC side.  Over time, the profitablity of many games may depend on whether they are in the Xbox pc gaming store or not.  My guess, this will never eliminate steam, but it could hurt them considerably long term...

It is near the end of the end....

Not yet but give it some time.

PC gamers will go where the cheapest games are, there is no loyalty to a brand. If Microsoft want to OutValve Valve, they have to publish a buckloads of cheap games.
