Forums - Sony - I was wrong...very wrong...I admit it

WUT?!

Do you really expect Bloodporn to do only 250k on its first week (globally)? This alone doesn't make any sense.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Seriously, wtf?? Bloodborne can do close to that in Japan alone

So, you believe that a sequel to games that did about 500K and 350K lifetime on 8-9 times the install base can do that kind of numbers in first week on PS4. We can even see that the interest for the game is in decline.

I think many people here overestimate Bloodborne. A lot.

@Bold: Bloodborne isn't a sequel. Demon's Souls also managed 350k lifetime way back in early 2009 in Japan only. Then it was a new entity. Now it has an established fanbase. Dark Souls II did 260k on PS3 FW in Japan only and 590k WW. Why would Bloodborne fall by a HUGE amount to 250k globally? Look at sales of exclusive PS4 software (and 3rd party software for that matter) at this point. Do you see PS4 games selling less than PS3 games despite the huge install base difference? No. Why? Because install base is not everything.

I know it's not a direct sequel, but it basically is sold to the exact same audience of first three games. I basically consider it a part 4 of a franchise.

Nevertheless, of course I could be wrong, but I simply cannot see the hype for that game. Of course, I understand it has its fanbase, but I cannot see it sell on par with other PS4 games, exclusives or not, because it will not appeal to anyone outside the established niche.

It's not impossible, Bloodborne has been doing (even though I hate using that for Japan) very well on Amazon.jp for example, place 54 on the 2014 best seller list (32 in 2015) and as has been said it is tracking ahead of Dark Souls 2 on COMG as well.

Also the "brand new" IP excuse really doesn't work here, people know what the game is about, they know that it's essentially a Souls game.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but Bloodborne should be the first AAA exclusive for PS4 that japan actually care about. That normally means inflated hype and long legs.

It's the first (though Disgaea 5 comes out the same day and the japanese care about that game as well) yeah and I think some people are really underestimating it in Japan. 100k first week? Come on. The game will easily beat that.

Maybe we need a new Bloodborne prediction thread (I think I made one when the game was announced).

Borderlands Remaster containing BL2 and PreSequel has just been announced, and it is being released the same day as Bloodborne (March 24).

My prediction (and my very first thread of this type) is that Borderlands will outsell Bloodborne. BL will be on top that week, and will eventually finish its run ahead of Bloodborne.

My reasoning:

- A well established, popular franchise

- BL2 sold over 2 million on PS3, but PreSequel barely made it to half million. Many fans have obviously moved to PS4 already (along with some X360 users) and will jump on the opportunity to play it now.

- Package includes 2 games and a ton of DLCs, making it a good value.

- Bloodborne is a niche title, loved by hardcore gamers, but inaccessible to the general population

The only thing that could screw my prediction: Japan!

I say:  FW  BL - 400K,  BB - 250K

            LT   BL - 1.6M,  BB - 1.25M

I expect most will disagree, let me have it...

Demon's Souls sold 1.77mil (source:vgchartz) and you think Bloodborne will only sell 1.25mil.

Fail.

Even if that's the case, 1.25m lifetime still doesn't make much sense, the "Souls niche" is way bigger than that.

Haven´t you guys learned not to overestimate remakes and HD remasters?

Both games will do ok, and nothing more.

Edit:

CMIIW, but by 2009 the PS3 had a health user base in Japan. And today we see only dismay in their home console market. In the long shot if the game is realy good it could do wonders, but in the near future if nothing else moves the japanease gamers back to home consoles....

Huh? What are you talking about?

Comg currently shows it tracking ahead of Dark Souls 2 which opened to 250k in Japan.

Okay then, forget what I said for comg!I will found my expectation about BB  selling half of the 250k that episteme said, differently!

Dark souls 2 a non new ip opened to 250k on a 10m userbase,a brand new ip on a 1m+ userbase will sell the same with dark souls 2 because it outpaces iton comg?

This is a good point. I don't quite agree that it doesn't apply but I do think it doesn't necessarily affect it as much as other new IP's. As far as sales thats hard to say because if the game comes out and it sucks then yes borderlands will probably do better. If it's a good game though I do think it will sell better. I'm certainily more interested in Bloodborne then borderlands. At the same time though I am getting borderlands cause my GF already got mad that I sold my 360 so we  couldn't finish playing borderlands 2.

Not a chance in hell lol. Borderlands is a re-release of games that have been released dozens of times.

Not gonna happen. I have no interest in Pre-Sequel anymore. They really messed up by not putting it on next-gen earlier.

How is it niche when it sold millions of copies??!! Plus like I said before, people like pewdipie even loves the series. How is it niche???
