New name, both the "DS" and "Wii" brands are finished after this cycle.

They will have a new unified branding because IMO the next handheld and "console" will play the same games.

In my opinion, the DS name has been overused and Nintendo needs to come with something else.

Besides, we don't even know if it will have 2 screens or if it will go back to having only 1.

Yeah, I think it'll be HDS since the "DS" brand is very famous and successful, plus the system will likely be in HD, so...

I don't think they have to actually call it DS for it to still have two screens. They might brand it as something else, just to emphasis the unified platform with the console.

While I don't had single screen handhelds, I would also hate it if they regressed back to a single screen setup, especially since it would fuck up BC completely.

If it is still a DS (dual screen), yeah. If not, no.

I definitely don't think it'll be called the HDS or the Fusion, simply because everyone on the internet thinks it will be called the Fusion or the HDS. Stealing names from the internet as a way to brand your next line of hardware is absolutely retarded and a marketing catastrophe.

Also, there's no way in hell they are dropping the dual screen set up. They can't go back. Having dual analog, bumpers and triggers, and HD capabilities to build on what the 3DS already have are selling points enough to upgrade. Especially when they can also have the unified library as a major selling point on top of that.

I do think that the handheld will share a brand with the console though, so what ever the handheld is called will have some naming commonality with the console, the same way the iPad, iPod, and iPhone share the "i."

I think they'll abandon the DS brand (just as they will abandon the Wii brand) and move on to something else. However, they may keep the dual screen itself. Although at this point, I think they should just keep it to one screen like the GameBoy and make it as powerful as possible.

The Nintendo Fusion idea is still my best guess.

That's never happening. They're not going to throw away complete physically possible hardware compatability with their last two, majorly successful, handhelds just to squeeze in a little extra power. Dual Screen is here to stay. And I honestly think that's just as true for the console. The gamepad isn't going anywhere. It might be turned smaller and more attractive, but it's not disappearing with the next hardware.

Well, I never said it was happening, just said that I would welcome it. :P Although by no means do I hate the dual screen, it's actually really great, but I wouldn't mind if they abandoned it.

I don't think the GamePad should disappear. In fact, I love the GamePad and think it should be used more. So if they made it smaller, more attractive, with more stable connection and have it be integrated with more games, I'd love that. They just need great marketing. >.>
