What?? Not really. PSP's sole reason for success was MH, basically. 3DS has plenty of other big games.

There are 3 PS3 games there...
I hope I don't need to explain why there's no PS4 game there yet.

Those 4 games on PSP are unique from one another and not expansion packs of other games as far as I know. The 3 games available on 3DS would be 4, its expantion, 4G and an expantion of 3, 3G. All things considere, I'd say that the series might be performing better on 3DS; unless Sony directly pays for it I doubt Capcom would make a MH for Vita (a brand new one that is, a port is not far fetched) the fanbase in on 3DS and I suspect 3DS games are cheaper to make than Vita games, specially for something like MH. If MH on PSV would sell like hot cakes then MH on 3DS is selling like radioactive cakes. |
Not really a fair comparison since the series didn't really take off until its third PSP release or so. It was already astronomically huge when the first one came to 3DS. It's kind of like comparing CoD 2,3,4,5 with CoD 6,7,8,9.
Also, I really doubt making 3DS games is any cheaper than PSV ones. Just look at their respective game support. 3DS gets the huge games while PSV gets more games in total and most are small to decently sized. But since Nintendo practically funded a part of the 3DS games' development it would of course end up cheaper than not getting anything from Sony.

I stand corrected.

I'm not saying that the development costs are way different, I just argue that something in the size and scope of MH would be more expensive to make on Vita than on 3DS, especially if its something made from the ground up.
Other factors that might discourage Capcom for MH on PSV are the install base of the sytem and overall software sales of the system.
There should be an easier way to quote more than one person per post.

Just another reason why it should stay 3DS/ Home console.
Excellent work with this.
It's pretty amusing that the top two games on Sony consoles ever are both PSP games, and then there's only one other title from PSP on the list - from the same franchise as the top two games.
For a console that sold 20m in Japan, compared to 23m for PS2/20m for PS1, it's actually got a shockingly small amount of million sellers. Just goes to show that one game can make all the difference; but also goes to show that the diversity of a load of other stuff selling 100k-900k can help make up the difference too.
Shows you how much PS3 collapsed too. 10m, but only two games on the list, both of them from franchises that performed stellar numbers in previous gens. The migration of Dragon Quest; absence of Kingdom Hearts/Onimusha and the diminishing sales of things like Gran Turismo/Warriors/Pro Evo really hurt this gen of home consoles.
I'm slightly amused that 4 Vita games got in with PSP games on handheld sales as well. Sadly, I don't think anything else will be joining that list - nothing announed for next year really has the potential to, other than possibly the Saga game.
Anyway, excellent data and very fun to read, thanks.
