Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bayonetta 2 sold less than 135K in the US

(I've got no clue how to embed videos)

This is the guy who started OperationPlatinum, Trey, a Youtube clickbait troll. The man never played the original game, but was using the sequel to troll the Sony and MS players who did into watching his videos. Gullible Nintendo lemmings, not knowing who Trey was, ate it up and it spread, giving his ramblings more attention than they deserve. It took years and multiple discounts on the PS3 to pass the million mark, and it still hasn't on the 360. Yet he was expecting it to pass the million within weeks on the Wii U.

So many people are annoyed on here due to this nincompoop. Let OperationPlatinum die and appreciate a great game.

Sales mean nothing anyway, I'm positive there'll be a third regardless.

Am I the only one who thinks Bayonetta 2 looks more like a PlayStation game then a Nintendo game ?... I bet the game would of sell alot more on PS.

Bayonetta 1 would like to have a word with you.

I don't understand. You think Bayonetta 2 has better reached it's audience than Bayonetta on PS3? Or just a comparison of PS3/360 of Bayonetta?

Bayonetta 2's lifetime sales on Wii U will likely be quite close to the individual SKUs of Bayo 1 on 360 and PS3. Considering Wii U will never have anywhere near as big an install base as those consoles, I don't think there's any guarantee Bayo 2 would have sold much better on Playstation or Xbox.

If I'm not mistaken, the ps3 version was a late port and didn't run as well as the others so it could have sold much better and yes I'm using the same argument used for third parties games on Wii U and I disagree bayo 2 selling close at least to ps3 version considering it's overtracked in US, there's no way reaching near ps3 without expanding greatly its userbase.

Nope, the PS3 version arrived on time, though, yes, it sucked.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Fans were on Xbox and PS.

And yet it didn't sell well there either; Bayo 2 will likely come close to the individual SKUs of Bayo 1 on PS3/360 in lifetime sales, despite an install base about 1/10th the size.

Yep. And lets not forget the power of "word of mouth" - Bayonetta 2 will continue to sell.

We also don't know the eShop sales. Besides the "First Print" edition there are not so much reasons to go phyisical. Its even worse to do so if you live in a country where you have to show your ID card on delivery (like germany if you ordered it with Bayonetta 1)...

Also let do not forget that Bayonetta 2 is a HUGE SUCCESS: it overfilled its purpose as an image changer. It showed that the Wii U can offer better gameplay AND better graphics than anything on the X360/PS3. It got recognized as a Game of the Year contentender and this will help Wii U sales in the long run...

well, I might have confused it with other games but like you said it still sucked.

Gee... what the hell, man? This game deserves so much more.

There's no way to spin it, Bayonetta 2 sales are not looking good. It sold less than Lego City Undercover...

Of course, the game has some legs and may end hitting 1M LT, let's hope that's the case.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

The game has a file size of 16GB if I'm correct, and no matter what model of Wii U you have, you won't be able to download the other game, so no, the physical release it's better.

I really don't see this as a flop.
1.) It didn't do that much worse than the first on a single console
2.) People who buy the Wii-U generally aren't the hardcore gamers that want Bayonetta 2
3.) The size of the user base.

Wii-U needed titles, and the developer got paid in full. It is what it is. Nintendo got a critically acclaimed title that excited the hard-core (niche) community.

I think it probably met internal expectation. Sure it might not of topped the charts, but who expected it to?

Yes, I think the same way as you. Overall, Bayonetta 2 filled another hole of titles for the console. The game is already there for anyone that may like to check it out.

The main issue with Bayonetta in general is that it is a game aimed primarily at 12-14 year old boys.

So's GTA, COD, and most modern console games for that matter.

Bayonetta's problem is that its style is not palatable to the Western mainstream consumer.

I'm curious how an M rated game, meaning 18+ years old, could be aimed at 12-14 year old boys. That's like Absolut gearing up an ad campaign to get 10 year olds interested in vodka. Granted, parents are idiots these days and buy minors M rated games without having any idea what the M rating means, or simply not caring, but for the most part, M rated games are aimed at college kids.
