let's not do this whole "dude" routine where everything is just, you know, your opinion, man. a "game" implies that it is a thing, governed by a set of rules, that's meant to be played, and playing a game almost always requires skill and coordination on the part of the player... play seems to be inherently linked to the whole concept of "game." i am simply saying there is not much playing that goes on in the last of us, just as there's very little playing that goes on in something like gone home (which i dislike even more, if it's possible).

speaking about a game like halo, which is incredibly easy at the normal difficulty and has regenerating health and all that, i still can respect it as an overall package because the gunplay is so satisfyingly precise, the mechanics are so polished, etc. etc. these are not qualities the last of us shares. precision, challenge, freedom... none of these are qualities it possesses in anywhere near decent quantities. it's basically an interactive movie, and i could forgive that if the movie were a decent one, but it's a cliché-ridden mess that, were it released as a movie (as seems likely to happen), would never be taken seriously.

and, just to clarify, this isn't just a problem i have with the genre... compare the now decade old resident evil 4 to the last of us and... well, there's just no comparison. it's not even good in the context of its genre.

So basically you are saying 'I don't like it therefore it's not a game!'

Seems there is a LOT of people who disagree with you though...

ah, the old bandwagon argument--accuse me of not making a reasoned argument (which i did, defining the characteristics of a game, which you're free to dispute) and then appeal to the popularity of something as a confirmation of its quality. angry birds and candy crush must be the very definition of quality games, if we're defining it that way. i mean, they leave the last of us in the dust.

ok not for you, play something else

Context sensitive running speed is more cinematic.

Seriously though I thought the game was brilliant. The first cinematic game I've played that actually felt like it struck to correct balance of story and gameplay.

"I've beaten the game twice, and on my third play-though of it"

Well, he has more right to hate The last of Us than most of us (heh) which have only played it once :P

Normally, when I hate a game I don't play anymore. It must be torture to play once again.

Why Resident Evil 4? Resident Evil 5 is superior in every way to RE4.

i liked re5 just fine (and certainly more than re6), it just didn't do much to change the core re4 formula, and what it did change wasn't for the best. it removed a lot of the puzzle-solving as well as the exploration that made re4 a classic. at its best re4 was, like metroid prime, an exploration-based 3d puzzle-adventure game and not purely survival-horror or shooter, so... that's why.

I shouldn't have to play through a whole game to determine if it is worth my time or not. I get I am not in the best position to judge, but many games I love immediately grabbed my attention from the get go, and that should count for something.

Again I said I am going to finish it soon. Maybe my opinion will change and maybe not, but for all the hype and goty praise I should have had a more engaging awesome opener.

I get I am not in the best position to judge

well as long as you get that.

also the game does have a really slow start, if im not wrong d21lewis made a thread talking about the game, and how it didnt grabed him from the start so he stoped playing the game for over a year till he finished it as well.

Yeah, I agree. Played through most of the intro chapter yesterday and thought it was okay.Finished it and got to Bill and now I'm enjoying it much, much more.

So you've beaten it twice and....Do you only own like one game? I mean why waste your time beating a game you hate once let alone twice an now you're going back for a third? Am i being trolled lol

probably going to get moderated for this but fuck it, the way you're talking here is annoying as fuck. you have a clear hatred for playstation and that's whatever who cares, but the last of us isn't a bad game and isn't overrated to the least extent. why? because it deserves all of the praise it gets. the story is amazing, the gameplay is solid, the acting is perfect, the graphics are great, you know these things. you hate the fact that this game gets as much praise as it does, you hate that so much and i can tell. this game's job is to capture you, make you emotionally invested. it did that for everyone. i doubt you even played it, but if you did, i'm willing to bet you started playing it with the mindset "i hate playstation, i hope this game sucks". honestly, i think you're just trying to be a stand out kind of person on this site. trying to be different and edgy. it's embarrassing.

TLOU has a pretty slow start, at least in my opinion. It's really a game that gets a lot better as you play it. Then there's the ending...
