Forums - Sony - Naughty Dog won't push Uncharted 4 to 60fps if it compromises player experience

Uncharted has never been at 60fps and it's played just fine for me! Do what you need to Naughty Dog.

I think it's quite simple really. I have never been able to tell if a game ran at 30fps or 60fps until I played TLOUR. I played for a while and then switched to 30fps and could see the difference. The following day I then played a game on my PS3 and I was back to not noticing. NOW, if this game can run at 60fps most of the time but drop drastically with huge set pieces, because I have a point of reference within the same game, I'm going to notice immediately. This will spoil my experience.

I experienced the exact same. When directly switching between the two, the difference is quite big. However If you're only offered 30fps to begin with, your eyes except it as a smooth image.

Exactly. You have to be pretty anal to be constantly noticing framerates or graphical defects. Once you're absorbed by the 'experience' those tiny flaws are meaningless.

The PS5 Exists.

Sucks that people care more about those extra polys and res. VS 60fps. I prefer it the other way.

We know they can achieve 1080p 30 locked just fine. Worst case scenario, I hope we get the option of unlocked frame rate with a good sync method. inFamous and TLOU unlocked both played quite well.

4 ≈ One

I play my PS2 games in ten eighty p, 60 fps and grafix enhancements on my new PC.

That's ok. As long as it looks great.

Is it just me, or does this game seem awfully close to done for a game that comes out in nearly a year? The visuals we saw last months were already running above 30 fps? That's crazy.

Personally I'd love for it to be at 60fps, but I like that they aren't willing to hinder the experience for it. A locked 30 fps with the option to unlock it like we've been seeing with other Sony games would be perfectly fine with me.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

30fps is fine with me, anything more is icing on the cake.

And it still looks worse than last gen sub-HD games...

Its not debatable, its fact. Every game benefits from 60fps, even though some more than others.

The problem is that not every gamer is tight enough with their gaming to notice. I honestly struggle to understand those that say there isnt a difference because for me its a dramatic difference. I will sacrifice particle effects, AI, fidelity and polygons if it means i get smooth, responsive and fun gameplay.

10 years from now when you play the game the eye candy will be outdared and mean nothing while the 60fps gives you a timeless classic based on smooth and fun gameplay.

If the console standard is 60 FPS its not debatable, but consoles arent standard 60 FPS. This is only common sense. This isn't the PC realm.

What kind of defeatist argument is that? That you prefer to have inferior product because you game on a console? I dont buy that Master race nonsense.

While 30fps would naturally feel clunky and unplayable.

I would think that it does. If in 10 years the standard isnt 60fps, then we have gone horribly wrong at some point.
