So far no mass console crashes! The PS2 had the Disc Read Error, while the Xbox 360 had that little red ring of death issue.

So far none of the consoles have had any mass errors! They finally all work pretty well.

Anyone have a launch-2 year old Xbox 360 that still works by the way? Or any DRE/RROD stories? I remember I got a launch day Core 360 + hard drive, and a couple months after Gears of War came out I sold it for like $280 and a few Wii games. I was starting to heavily regret that decision (and my friends were calling me dumb for it) until a week later the guy who bought it for cheap complains to me about it shutting off and not working. I had no idea what was going on and the console always had proper ventilation, so it made no sense. He mentioned the red lights, and it may be overheating. A few months later we would have our answer. But for those few months I didn't feel too bad for selling it!

I know one guy who went through 6 Xbox 360 consoles, and my friend's PS2 DRE'd, albeit after 5ish years.

Nintendo is the kings of reliability without question. My SNES and N64 from when I was a child still works (so does my PS1 and PS2 though)

One thing I really like about Nintendo is how their systems are so quiet. The Wii U is perfectly silent, especially when compared to my PS4. From my experience a PS4 and a XBOne make about the same amount of noise. I can not wait for the slim PS4 for even more reliability and for it being more quiet

Yeah this Gen has started beautifuly with a couple exceptions. Looking forward to the future :)

Yea, I noticed this too. I think it's excellent.

You haven't heard of PS4s that will take it in, but refuse to swallow?

That's especially notable because of the internet and blowing things out of proportion. Looks like the problems with the consoles (X1 disc shredder, PS4 HDMI socket) were so minor, no one could even make a bigger story out of it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I had 6 360s. Three got RROD, one couldn't read discs, and one just couldn't power on. I eventually just bought a slim (only because I had a large game library) and that still works, but I had a lot of ill-will towards MS coming into this gen because their cheap penny pinching ways made last gen hell for me and bought a launch PS4.

It was so much hassle constantly having to arrange for a coffin, travel to Purolator to drop it off, wait 2-3 weeks with no games, then travel again to Purolator to pick up yet another refurbished POS.  I didn't even have a car back then so it cost me 30$ taking the public transit in total, not to mention all the hassel of waiting for a bus, walking, etc. I actually was hoping for xbox division to fail this gen. I had SUCH a bad experience with xbox last gen.

Very happy Sony produced the better console (imo) this gen, if xone had the price and hardware of PS4 and PS4 was like xone, I would have been loath to buy an xone. Probably would have because price/power are what interest me most in a console given that 99% of the best games are multiplats. Online services are important as well and I do appreciate all the Plus games. Also, after 5 years of paying for Live and getting nothing in return, I really didn't want MS to succeed, they just felt so greedy. I remember swearing that xbox would eventually fail to one of the service reps when I was asking for (and being denied) a new 360 after the 4th one died, and how I'll laugh when a much smaller company like Sony beats them because they are so out of touch with consumer satisfaction.  I was pretty frustrated lol, I just kept repeating xbox is going to lose.

MS had compete console domination in its grasp and blew it. To save a few short term dollars, they sacrificed long term obliteration of the competition. Now they're almost giving away xones (at least in November and December), bet that cost a lot more than replacing a formerly loyal early adaptors clearly lemon console.  The fact that I'm still mildly upset about is telling, I will never forget how MS shat all over early 360 adoptors.

Yeah consoles will always have issues, but they're relatively minor. The PS2 and Xbox 360 were the exception though. Tons of PS2s got DREs and it was a huge deal in the early 2000s, and of course the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death was the real deal and I think it was underhyped. I heard as much as 50% of 2005-2007 Xbox 360's got the RROD.... just mind boggling. The PS3 had the yellow light of death but I think what you're saying applies here (people were so hyped about RROD the YLOD got more stories on it).

One thing I will give to Microsoft is that once RROD was super serious they manned up and spent a billion for warranties.

I was so worried about some console crashing problem. I actually waited to buy a PS4 because I was worried something would happen but I caved. So far so good.

You just jinxed it, asshole. You better be knocking on wood right now. If my PS4 breaks I'm coming for you.
