Forums - Gaming - Core Nintendo fans are to blame for the Wii U situation

i agree especially with that last paragraph, if nintendo made more new stuff (Splatoon is new i know, but i want MORE new stuff) then maybe they would end up making something new that i like.

for example i really like the fact that Sony isnt scared of making new IPs, and they are not scared of said new IPs failing and dying (PS all stars, Lair, Heavenly Sword etc), but for every one or twice failed game they hit the jackpot with great games, just look at last gen almost every big Sony game was a new IP: (Uncharted, Demons Souls, Little Big Planet, TLOU, Infamous, Motorstorm, Puppeter, Resistance etc).

now the fact that they get a lot of new IPs doesnt mean that im gonna like every single new game they make, i for example am not interested in Motorstorm, Resistence and Little Big Planet and those were some of the Big new games on last gen, but thankfully they kept making new games and i found my favorite PS3 game in one of those new IPs of las gen, Demons Souls.

so yeah i hope Splatoon is only the beggining of a new stream of NEW Nintendo games.

Hello Guys. I am a hardcore Nintendo fan and everybody is right. I only buy a game if it is Mario, if it is not it is OBVIOUSLY terrible. I mean, what is there to play besides Mario right?

And if you did not see the sarcasm there you need to think things through a bit more. I play MANY hardcore games on the Wii U. Don't say I don't

I don't have to buy games I don't like.

Long story short: Nintendo is to blame for thinking that they could capture some of the audience that buys third party games.

That makes sense. Well said.

I don't see how blaming Nintendo is "just an excuse" when it is their decisions (along with the market, competition and things outside their control) that led to them being in the position they are just now. Hardcore Nintendo fans are "to blame" for the current Wii U situation only in that they are "to blame" for the Wii U still being alive at all - without big Nintendo fans the Wii U would likely have had such low sales that Nintendo would have been forced to abandon it and move onto the next thing (whether that's another console rushed out after Wii U, becoming handheld only, etc.).

There is something to be said for the idea of putting your money where your mouth is ("If you complain about not getting new IPs, then buy new IPs when they come out") but you have overshot the legitimate point by trying to be too controversial and attention seeking.

TLDR: Nintendo fans won't allow Nintendo to create new IP's

How exactly are they accomplishing this?

So the WiiU had purchase-worthy third party support? I must have missed it.

I disagree. If Nintendo's core fans don't buy 3rd party games then that's up to them. What Nintendo need to do is bring in a wider range of people with different tastes, then the 3rd party sales will come with them. That isn't the fans fault.

As for new ips, also not the fans fault. You said yourself Retro can't make a new ip because fans want Metroid, well there hasn't been a Metroid game for a while so they don't do exactly what the fans want all the time and could very well be making a new ip that we don't know about yet.

The way they bring in a wider range is better hardware, normal controllers, and new IP's

do you remember what Reggie said about DKC Tropical Freeze before it was announced? He said Retro was doing something that the fans wanted. Nintendo thought the fans wanted DK, they were wrong. So, yes, Nintendo is disconnected a bit but when DK was announced, fans complained and said they wanted Metroid.

If they do make a new IP, maybe Nintendo is learning to let the developers branch out. Splatoon is a great start

I think you are incredibly wrong regarding your statement that Nintendo fans don't want new IPs. I think people are very excited for Splatoon and curious about the other new IPs coming to the Wii U in the near future. And sure, go ahead and blame the core Nintendo fans for the 3rd party issue. Ya know what the reason is? Nintendo fans are used to quality ass games. And, let's be honest, a lot of third party games out there are pretty shitty. Bring the good third party games to the Wii U (or any Nintendo console), have them be ported over CORRECTLY, release them at the same time as the other consoles, and people will buy them if they don't have the ridiculous issues that we've been seeing as of late.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

They aren't. It's just some made up bullshit.
