Forums - Sales - 360 price cut. The end for PS3?

Yeah, this is officially a rumor until we get some more definitive evidence.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

No one knows if MS will drop the price. Also, Sony is not going to tell you when a price drop is coming. Remember, Toshiba said the HD war was good and strong, and that they were in it for the long haul. This the day before they announced they were dropping the format. It's what PR people do.

I would never listen to price rumors. Only official announcements.

I concur. It'll help 360, but hardly be the end for PS3.

If the price drops $50, it will being outselling the ps3 WW up until the release of MGS4. From that point on, the ps3 will pass up the 360 and never look back. It's exclusives will carry it through to the end of the year, and it's next price cut will ensure that it stays ahead of the 360.

Hurt yes, doomed no. And it largely depends on how much the price is cut, and for which models (or will there be new models released?), and whether Sony is able to respond. Even if they don't choose an immediate response, any sign that this cut is may decisively tip the market in the 360s favor will almost certainly cause Sony to retaliate.

I don't think it will kill the PS3, but it will definitely force Sony's hand in dropping the price again before they were prepared to, possibly in April before GTA IV instead on around the launch of MGS4.

NO!!! Did Halo 3 and a drop kill the ps3?? Nope.
So I dont think another price drop and multiplatform game will kill the PS3

I think Sony will answer the same way that MS answered to the PS3 price cut.
I expect a $50 price cut but the possibility of going a full $100 to completely try to stop MS is possible.

 Your sig pics are hilarious.

The end? Really? Riiiiiight.

Anyways, this price cut is just for Europe where the 360 is being trounced so it won't affect anything over here. If Microsoft were to cut prices over here, then we might see something from SCEA.

If MS only cuts $50 (since they like to pretend dollars equal euros), then it's pretty much a joke. Sony will turn around and cut twice as much, again, and they will take a mild weekly lead and turn it into a significant weekly lead until they just plain lead. They won't be beating Wii, but if this is the best MS can muster this year they are going to be smashed by Sony.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

"360 price cut. The end for PS3?" Do you even need to ask that? Of course its not the end for the PS3, it probably won't do hardly anything, Europe and Japan made up their mind out of the two, they chose PS3. It might boosts sales in America for awhile, but it will be short lived.

Perhaps next time word it differently like, "How will the 360 price cut EFFECT the PS3".
