Forums - Nintendo - How about FPS/TPS Metroid Hybrid?

Discussing in another topic about the possible new take of Retro in the Metroid Series, I was thinking of one thing, what if instead of using the Gamepad just to inventory and scan stuff, it could be used to show different perspectives.

In the TV screen you could have a FPS view, and in the gamepad a TPS screen. And you could also switch for which mode you would like to play in each screen in game time. Sort of like it was done with GTA V and Metal Gear IV.

I think that would be really unique and would justify the gamepad 100%.

Metroid: Other M really killed off the entire franchise.

Other M was an spin-off made by a external studio, I would not say it killed, but taught Nintendo to not leave random people put a Hand in their IP.

Other M is canon, Prime trilogy is not.

Spin-off doesn't mean out of continuity, but I was just trying to say that it wasn't really a Metroid from a Nintendo Studio, which doesn't justify very much since Smash Bros U was developed by Namco. But for me it was the equivalent of Hyrule Warriors.

Well Nintendo didn't even acknowledge Other M's existence last time they discussed the franchise but did acknowledge Prime's so how canon it is could be debated :P.

I honestly think the franchise should go full Prime for the time being as Other M has likely poisoned the third person gameplay via guilt by association.  If gameplay for the next one looks at all like Other M the amount of backlash will destroy any potential success before it launches.  Personally, I find Prime's first person style very atmospheric.

That's a neat idea, not sure how that would effect graphical performance though.... it's having to push two different images simultaneously, but maybe the environment building and rendering would be shared for both (so that the main differences the GPU has to calculate are the character model on one screen versus a HUD/helmet overlay on the FP view... and probably a different field of view)

This is how you use the gamepad properly!
Of course this idea would need some effort to work properly, but I think it would be worth the effort.

Only if there is an option to just play it on TV with a pro-controller and not have it mandatory then sure
