It was published by SCEJ, that is, its a Japanese published game not a Western one.

It's not big. Most western published games don't sell like GTA in any country. One of the best selling games of all time selling a little better in Japan is not "big." It's inevitable. It's a cool acheivement for GTA, but it has absolutely no baring on the trajectory of the Japanese console market, which is what people are suggesting.


It's 2 time more then any other GTA games in Japan so it's big



PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Not according to VGC. It has PS3+PS4 at 0.97m. Including 360 it's 1.03m.

Oh you're right, my bad. But its now at 0.99m on PS3+PS4 taking into account the latest week's sales. It will be above 1m on these two consoles probably by next week then

Most sales come from PS3 and 1m units is huge for home console sales. When all is said and done GTA V will be the 3rd best selling PS3 game in Japan, if not 2nd. Above games like RE6, FFXIII-2 and MGS4. It really is impressive. It's the first Western franchise since Crash Bandicoot to become huge in Japan.

I'd say that wasn't Eidos, but Enix. I mean, according to VGC, FFX-2 was published by EA...

I'll never understand the taste of Japanese people. I know they only support the games of their own country, but they are missing a lot of great games because they are "western made."

It's just interesting to know that this is the first Western game to sell over a million, which honestly surprised me.
