For the record: I wouldn't really be buying it for the guide itself, but I would just look through it for the art/pictures and other info (which I'm pretty sure it'll have since it's the special edition) and overall because it looks cool and it'd be nice to have.

The internet, of course, is the better alternative as a guide, considering it's free lol.

Well you might not buy it for the guide, but trust me, youll use it...

Yeah. Majora's Mask can be a bitch if you're a completionist.

It can be a bitch just getting through it. I had to print out the guide because I used it so often

I definitely am, lol. I've heard horror stories of the side quests in this game. Like, that it's almost impossible without some sort of guide.

Idk, you could buy a whole new 3DS game with that money!

The one guide I recently bought, which IMO was worth every penny was this:

http://www.amazon.com/Ni-No-Kuni-Wrath-Official/dp/030789598X/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420867853&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=ni+no+kuni+wrath+of+the+white+witch+huide

It's the hardcover edition and let me tell you it's gorgeous. From the cover art to the actual inside. It was also extremely helpful in the familiar guide and what evolves into what, etc. Didn't really need it for the walkthrough, but mostly for the inside art.

Edit: To answer your question, it's not that practical anymore since the Internet.... There are also so many incredible guides online for games. The most recent one I used was for Persona 4 Golden KADFC's guide and that was one of the best written online guides in completion and overall design.

I find them useful with RPG's when you're just trying find some info real quick instead of trying to find something online. The info on character customization/building in strategy guides is usually better. I try to avoid using them or the net to get past difficult things. Some of them are collectible. For any other genre of games, I would say that it's a waste.

Sure. I bought every single Strategy guide since FFX and they are beautiful and informative. Even if all of the information is available online it's a nice piece of merchandise.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If you're getting it to collect then go for it. As a guide it's probably useless since most of that stuff is online for free.

My answer before I could answer.
