Forums - Gaming - Are Strategy Guides Worth Buying?

I'm asking because I'm interested in buying one and I want to know if it's worth it. Specifically, it's the Majora's Mask 3D Collector's Strategy Guide, and it costs $35 to preorder at GameStop. I've never bought a strategy guide for any game, but I've always been somewhat intruiged by them.

I'd like to buy this guide because:

1. It's sexy as hell.

2. I want to go all in with Majora's Mask 3D. All of the collector items, including this guide and the figurine. I've never played MM, but I have a feeling it will be one of my favorite Zelda games.

Would it be worth the price? Is the likehilhood of this increasing in value good, or should I just wait after launch for a price drop?

If your buying a strategy guide for the guide part... No.

Strategy guides had their place in the past, but with the Internet has killed the practical use and value of them.

Usually not...

With Majoras Mask? Fuck yes!

Some of them are worth it, mostly for the arts. But I prefer getting art books from the games I like than actual guides, when I have the choice.

That being said, if you really need a guide, there's a universal one that barely costs anything: The Internet.

The only one I ever had was for KH 368/2 and the only reason I got it was because my Dad was overseas. It was pretty detailed but not really necessary.

Maybe as a collectors item, but there's little point in buying it as actual guide :p Not if you have access to the internet.

For the record: I wouldn't really be buying it for the guide itself, but I would just look through it for the art/pictures and other info (which I'm pretty sure it'll have since it's the special edition) and overall because it looks cool and it'd be nice to have.

The internet, of course, is the better alternative as a guide, considering it's free lol.

Really only as collectors items. I have bought a few recent ones (only on special though) and I still rather search for guides online than read them.
