Forums - Gaming Discussion - In which cases do you consider piracy legitimate?

Tagged games:

All OOP games are all fair game for piracy IMO. Even if a game is available digitally and was available boxed/in store and is no longer available.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

When the console is dead as far as game support. At that point buying games used and in most cases new wouldn't support the developers.

So I can't download Metal Gear Solid HD Collection just because my slim CFW PS3 doesn't run my ORIGINAL PS2 copy of the same games? Do I need to take out the ps2 from the box and buy and expensive video adapter to get bad graphics and interlacing problems on my pc monitor?

No, you can't.  Well, I mean, you can, but not legally or morally.

When you bought the original copy of the games, were you promised that they would work on anything but your PS2?  Did Sony or Konami say "this  game will work with every console you purchase in the future"?  Did they say "if we update this game with better graphics you're entitled to it for free"?

If you want to steal it, steal it.  I'm not your conscience or anything, but having the PS2 version of the game doesn't change the fact that you're stealing it.

For demos.

Because it seems noone really do demos anymore, and there's no other way to try apart from buying it, or watching some videos on it and trying to figure out if you'd enjoy the game from videos.

So you're the guy who goes into supermarkets and rips open every package if they don't cave in to your demand for free samples.

No, I'm the guy who wants to try my games(interactive entertainment products don't fare very well for just looking at pictures, reading descriptions, or looking at videos) before buying them.  You'd think they'd have at least benchmark tests available for AAA on PC by now.

But if you want to draw parallels to ripping out packages in supermarkets or some such nonsense, then be my guest.

Last time I checked there were dozens of reviews and benchmark tests for any given AAA game. Massively more than for any other non entertainment product. Where are you looking?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I got my ps2slim hooked up to my HDTV. And to make the 'bad graphics' go away i only needed a component cable. :|

Nice, I also have that, looks decent on TVs but with monitor I need the YpBpR to VGA adapter and like most of these decices doesn't do a good job ad deinterlacing.

Nice to hear other people knows how to put good use to the old glorious PS2 (my friends always used the composite input :-/)

My question was just to know if someone thinks it is legit to use HD connection, not legal for sure but maybe someone thinks like me that the game was already payed.

Emulation especially. Well, roms and isos specifically. Optical media doesn't live forever and so you have a nice way of preserving the games and via emulation you can still play the games, even sometimes with better graphics.

Always.

I don't pirate, don't want to. I buy games because I want to support the industry, and Spotify / Netflix make it convenient enough for me to obtain music and video content legitimately. Hell, I even keep ads on for Youtube and VGChartz because I want to support those sites.

That said, I do not think piracy is theft, nor do I think it is immoral. On the whole, I think it is the concept of intellectual property that is immoral. Moreover, I do not think IP is a net positive from a utilitarian perspective, particularly when it comes to patents.

I can see your point, but I have the broken 60GB PS3 next to the slim, so I HAD the right to play those games with wireless controller and progressive scan on the monitor, the fat PS3 was payed. (so at a particular time in 2007 sony said: this game will work if you have purchased the CECHC PS3)

Just to note they will ruin us all with PS Now, where already legally bought DIGITAL (NON TRANSFERRABLE license) GAMES need to be payed AGAIN!

Aren't they cheating?

Thanks for the reply, good gaming.

Being poor is not a reason. That is a reason to better your life instead of pirate because you are to lazy to better your life. If you want better entertainment that should be a motivator enough to do it.

The only reason you would have to pirate is if idiots like Ubisoft put in DRM that prevent you playing the games because NERO has installed a virtual CD-ROM. Even when disabled it still complained about virtual CD-ROM. In that case I just downloaded the crack and patched my legit game.

WOW, didn't know about that! Will avoid Ubisoft games when I come back to glorious PC master race!
