Never, really. Don't be hipocrite.
I don't pirate games because I care about the industry. I occasionally pirate movies and always pirate music because I don't give a shit about them.
I know I'm thief, but I at least admit it.

So I can't download Metal Gear Solid HD Collection just because my slim CFW PS3 doesn't run my ORIGINAL PS2 copy of the same games? Do I need to take out the ps2 from the box and buy and expensive video adapter to get bad graphics and interlacing problems on my pc monitor?
Persona 5 on PS3, I won't need next gen!

Cracks/No-DVDs are never legal. But i guess that's not the point of this thread.

Hunting Season is done...

I got my ps2slim hooked up to my HDTV. And to make the 'bad graphics' go away i only needed a component cable. :|

I dunno about the word legitimate. Maybe "morally acceptable" would be a better question.
I'd consider it morally acceptable if
1) you already own it but just want to play it in a more convenient format (e.g play on pc rather than go and dust off your old console)
2) you're not going to play it at all otherwise. e.g I only play handhelds. It's the only thing I have the time for. Am I OK in playing pirated SNES games on my PSP? I think yes I am. If nintendo had them on the 3DS, I would've paid for them. But as it stands, custom firmware on a PSP is the only way to play SNES games on the move.
If you live in a poor country and that's your only option in the world, then I can understand it.
I think it's fair to stream tv/music/movies if there's no way watch it legally in your own country. It's not okay to stream/download a movie that's sold on DVD/Blu-ray 4 months later.
Don't copy random editorials.

I'm sure modding a console isn't illegal, a lot of modding sites tell you at the beginning that it's only legal playing backup copies of games you already own and it's your responsability if you decide to actually pirate games. |
Everything that pertains to this, is basically illigeal in the US half the time. Like one step is a no no. Read a CD's fine print that's released recently. It basically says if you lend this disc, it's illgeal. It's so broad in words. By even letting someone else touch it, I'm potetionally doing a crime.

I cannot say anything about the US, but the EU courts usually protect consumers/citizens and they have repeatedly ruled that modding is not illegal.
Once you purchase/pay for any product, it is considered transfer of ownership, and the producer by taking payment relinquishes all subsequent rights to that product.
Once you buy a console, it is yours, and you're free to do whatever you please, use it, dismantle it, set it on fire, mod it.... Console is a product just the same as a desk, car tyre, pencil or a washing machine. Yet somehow people think that Sony and MS have the right to poke into our living rooms. I wonder how you would feel if Ikea made surprise visits to see if you assembled their chair "legally".
