Not sure what you mean by only company to make it work. IMO if this game was on any other console it would have a rave following and rave reviews and so forth. It would be the next must have game.

I feel it gets overlooked and passed by many as just another kiddy nintendo game.

It's like Okami. If that was a Nintendo exclusive it would not have been another kiddy game with not realistic graphics and a gimicky control style, but since it was on other consoles the arty style is unique and amazing and the control style was refreshing and intuitive, ect.

I take it you mean no other (big) company would have greenlit a game like this, and even be able to turn it into a success. I think I agree. Other big gaming companies probably wouldn't think of making a game like this because for them it's all about the 'grand' experience these days. A smaller developer, the, 'indie', if you will, could have developed a game like this, and they do.

That's not really true at all.  Sony funded games like Flower, Journey, The Unfinished Swan, Rain, and Tokyo Jungle on the PS3 and they have games like Rime coming up.  No one backs more smaller titles in the console space than they do.  Even Microsoft has skill in that area, like with the team that makes the Max games.  Even Ubisoft makes some high quality 2nd tier titles.

As far as being a success goes, though, no one can match Nintendo because it's a Mario-related title, which many Nintendo fans will be interested in automatically.  On the other hand, had this been a game made by someone like Nippon Ichi for the Vita, I think it would also have sold well.

Something like captain Toad is what makes me such a huge Nintendo fan. In an industry dominated by shooters and cinematic games, Nintendo say "hey let's make a puzzle game in a small rubiks cube type maze".They have the confidence to create such game, and the ability to make it instantly enjoyable. Even a budget title like CT has such a high level of polish.

It's not so much they're the only complany that could make it. There are a fair few other developers out there that could make games like this.

Where Nintendo have the edge, they're the only publisher that can sell this type of game on the scale needed to make it viable as a full physical retail release.

Yeah, it's just Nintendo have the ability to sell this stuff to the right audience. There's an abundance of these kinds of games on various platforms, even no gaemz Vita has it's fair share, it's just they never get noticed on these systems.

SPOILERS! I just got the game, yesterday!!

Finished TLoU and now I need a more peaceful, relaxing game. One level in and Captain Toad hit a ShyGuy in the eye with a pitchfork and killed it. WTF?

Nintendo has changed, man.  Bayonetta, Devil's Third, Captain Toad--it's obvious that they've embraced the dark, edgy games that are all the rage nowadays.

It's a small step from Captain Toad to Mario jamming a shiv into a zombie's brain stem.
