I take it you mean no other (big) company would have greenlit a game like this, and even be able to turn it into a success. I think I agree. Other big gaming companies probably wouldn't think of making a game like this because for them it's all about the 'grand' experience these days. A smaller developer, the, 'indie', if you will, could have developed a game like this, and they do.

That's not really true at all.  Sony funded games like Flower, Journey, The Unfinished Swan, Rain, and Tokyo Jungle on the PS3 and they have games like Rime coming up.  No one backs more smaller titles in the console space than they do.  Even Microsoft has skill in that area, like with the team that makes the Max games.  Even Ubisoft makes some high quality 2nd tier titles.

As far as being a success goes, though, no one can match Nintendo because it's a Mario-related title, which many Nintendo fans will be interested in automatically.  On the other hand, had this been a game made by someone like Nippon Ichi for the Vita, I think it would also have sold well.

Yeah, it's just Nintendo have the ability to sell this stuff to the right audience. There's an abundance of these kinds of games on various platforms, even no gaemz Vita has it's fair share, it's just they never get noticed on these systems.
