You really believe that? $17bn from software only and they still lost $5bn+ on the PS3? I doubt they get that much money per game sold.

they were losing $270 on every ps3 sold even at $600. and that number comes to around 2.7b per year.

Probably a lot. The newest model is probably the cheapest console ever made. You even have to manually open it to put in the disc. Its like the NES...

Like somebody already mentioned we should consider that not all new games are sold for $59.

If you look at Best Buy (.com) they have the following break down for new games at certain price points (amount of games in parentheses)

Less than $10 (78)
$10 - $19.99 (277)
$20 - $39.99 (143)
$40 - $49.99 (20)
$50 - $99.99 (58)
$100 and Up (8)

Very close to 50% of all new games (as in not used) are sold for under $20. And this is after most the holiday sales are over.
