Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Preparing For The Xbox One Slim?

Of course they are. 20nm versions will be in production by the end of the year and their console is crazy over-sized. Their slim will probably be around as big as a PS4 lol...

Could ps4 do a slim and if so how small would the thing be. It's already lovely and compact

Hopefully we will also see a ps4 slim soon!

I think that the current design is great. I don't want a small little box. If they do make it "slimmer", I only want it to have a lower profile, not less wide. Components have a certain size, and it looks better when they all look similar.

But, peoples expectation now a days is that all electronics are extremely small. So, I am sure that they can offer 2 different XB1 skus. They can have one with an optical drive and still get it down to the PS4 size. They could also offer a unit that doesn't have an optical drive at all and make it much smaller yet. They could call it the XB1 Digital or something. It could include a much bigger Hard Drive to begin with than the other units or just the same size drive and sell it for $30-50 per unit less(even though optical drives only cost the $20 at most).

Just an idea...

It is near the end of the end....

Honestly I won't be surprised if Xbox One Slim releases this Holiday season alongside Halo 5 and Tomb Raider, a $300 Xbox One slim bundled with one of those games would sell like hotcakes. We know that AMD has been working on a new Xbox One chipset that uses less power for awhile now, once the chip is done it probably wouldn't take them more than a few months to manufacture a few million Slims, there's still ample time before the Holiday season.

This would be Ideal, this would sell massive amounts of Xbox One's.

It has always been the same. The fatter you are, the faster you lose weight.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I hope so!
I have interests in getting an Xbox One but it is so big! If they announce a smaller version I would buy it!

Oh I am sure they could.  Moving to 20nm would allow for almost half the power use and therefore less heat as well.  I am guessing it could be made at least 25% smaller and lighter based on those reasons alone...

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

20nm wont be that much more efficient. that is up to 14nm.

And getting more compact ist much harder for PS4. PSU wont get so much smaller, harddisk and discdrive will stay the same size. That mainly leaves cooling and mainboard.
Xone uses a completely different cooling design, very conservative. Likely already could be packed together much tighter. With already less power consumption (=less heat) and so much free space MS could make a slim right now and an anorexic edition with 14nm. The latter one really should cut power consumption (and heat) in half.

They should make an Xbone PC card to run Xbone on PC. That would be a Shit a brick moment. One disc for Xbone/PC
