Forums - Gaming - Sony Should Release Three New SKUs

Some interesting points there folks. I can agree to a certain extent with the problems a PS4/PS3 hybrid console would cause, both in terms of manufacturing and in terms of muddying the water for PSNow; although I really don't think PSNow is for the likes of you or I so I'd have to strike that from the argument to some extent. Confusion of the market was something I'd considered but your average Joe would likely just go for the straight forward superslim model, which I would hope Sony would promote more heavily than the other two. I see the digital only version being niche to begin with and perhaps only being sold in small quantities through online distribution or specialist shops. I still think there IS potential for the PS4/PS3 hybrid, not only for those who want one console beneath their TVs that offers two full libraries of games but for the broadening of both the PS4 and the PS3 user base through the second hand market, because of the much cheaper entry level.

PS4+ is a neat idea, but it'd be way more expensive than said in the OP.

PS4 Digital Only is an awful one though, the market for that one is pretty small.

Remember PS4 is not just a games console is also a multimedia device, used to watch DVDs and Blurays as well.

The optical drive probably costs less than $20 at this point, so removing the BR drive is pointless.

Its still to early to release a all digital home console plus backwards compatibility is becoming less important since there will be a ton of PS4 games released in 2015.

Plus most people still don't have fast enough internet without data caps where a all digital console would make sense.

There's nothing forcing someone with slow internet buying the PS4Di. I don't think you have a point.

The only thing they should do would be to release a new 2tb sku at $400/£350/400Euro and then reduce the 500gb sku to $/Euro350 with uk price perhaps down another tenner?

I guess you miss the point that on top of not having fast enough speed a lot of people also data caps which would make a all digital cosole impractible.

I'd get a digital only PS4 if I had the choice. Retail needs to die already. Gaming is the only entertainment medium that is still so antiqueted in that regard.

And I guess you are missing the fact that thousands of people have already gone ditigal and only ever buy games from PSN. Your argument doesn't hold water.
