Forums - Nintendo - How did Nintendo win developer of the year at the Game Awards?

Speaking of Ubisoft... do the non-Montreal studios actually make games? I think I've only ever seen them listed as assisting with games and not actually making any by themselves.

Yes they do. Ubisoft do have studios that only assist but all of the listed developers below make their own games. Therefore I think it's very odd to let Ubisoft Montreal compete with all of Nintendo's developers. Nintendo as a whole is a publisher. Only a single of their studios should be nominated for dev of the year. Else it's no fair game at all.

Ubisoft Barcelona: Rabbids Invasion, Shape Up
Ubisoft Blue Byte: The Settlers
Ubisoft Casablanca: Prince of Persia
Ubisoft Massive: The Division
Ubisoft Milan: Just Dance Wii U
Ubisoft Montpellier: Rayman Origins + Legends, ZombiU, Valiant Hearts, Beyond Good & Evil 2
Ubisoft Montreal: Child of Light, Watch Dogs,  Assassin's Creed: Unity, Far Cry 4, Rainvow Six: Siege
Ubisoft Nadeo: Trackmania, Shootmania, Questmania
Ubisoft Paris: Just Dance 2015
Ubisoft Quebec: Assassin's Creed: Victory
Ubisoft Red Storm: Rainbow Six: Lockdown
Ubisoft RedLynx: Trials series
Ubisoft Reflections: Driver: San Francisco, The Crew
Ubisoft Romania: H.A.W.X.
Ubisoft Shanghai: EndWar, I Am Alive
Ubisoft Singapore: Ghost Recon: Phantoms
Ubisoft Sofia: Assassin's Creed: Rogue
Ubisoft Sunflowers: Anno series
Ubisoft Toronto: Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Ubisoft Vancouver: Pure Football

I think they just meant publisher of the year.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

but I found it curious.

I find this curious as well. Then the yearly outcome of the 20 developers listed below should count towards Ubisoft's chances to win dev of the year xD

Ubisoft Barcelona: Rabbids Invasion, Shape Up
Ubisoft Blue Byte: The Settlers
Ubisoft Casablanca: Prince of Persia
Ubisoft Massive: The Division
Ubisoft Milan: Just Dance Wii U
Ubisoft Montpellier: Rayman Origins + Legends, ZombiU, Valiant Hearts, Beyond Good & Evil 2

That's a really good point. Wow.

Probably because regardless of the dev studio, the games are all overseen by the same select few men.

Kojima knows something we don't.

Wow, Ubisoft have a lot more studios than I thought! :o

Although as said before I'd assume Nintendo won it as only Nintendo EAD, not for all of their studios put together.

Ubisoft have become huge indeed. As many employees as EA (over 9000 :p), over twice of Activision (4000), almost twice of Nintendo (5000) and almost four times as many as Take-Two Interactive (2500). Besides the 20 listed game studios above they have 15 departments of which many function as assisting studios (e.g. Ubisoft Annecy developing the mp in AC games).

Future Games
Hybride Technologies
Quazal Technologies
UbiART Engine Team
Ubisoft Abu Dhabi
Ubisoft Annecy
Ubisoft Chengdu
Ubisoft Germany
Ubisoft Japan
Ubisoft Nagoya
Ubisoft Poland
Ubisoft Pune
Ubisoft San Francisco
Ubisoft Taiwan
Ubisoft Ukraine

Regarding Nintendo as dev of the year it makes sense if they're winning only as Nintendo EAD and I hope the folks at the awards are clearer in the future.

No offence. That's a really dumb excuse.

Idk, heck, Ubisoft (as well as many others) was part of the advisory board so if they disagreed, I am sure it would have been taken into question so who knows... Maybe they think that Nintendo is one big entity in the eyes of most people?

very biased jury, almost all americans and only 1 japanese. No other coutnries than first world countries. Poligon should be banned there altogether

My online systems: Mac M4 Apple sillicon+16 GB, PC Vega 56+Amd Ryzen+32GB DDR4, Xbox Series X, PS4 Pro, Switch Lite, Playstation Vita TV, PS3, PSP

My retro systems: Wii U, DSi, Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, PS1, Sega Saturn, Neo Geo AES, SNES, Evercade

thats a very good question and one that game "journalists" will fail to answer

To them, THE Nintendo even made Bayonetta 2, who is Platinum lol
