Forums - Gaming - The Unique, Oldschool Console Experience is on the Wii U

No surprise there. The Wii U is the only one that feel like a console while the Xbone and PS4 feel like a PC.

The Wii U definitely needs some more games for it but at the same time PS4 and Xbone dont have less to warrant a purchase from me.

I meant relevant as in 'worth playing'.

But you're right, consumers and the media are shaping Nintendo as irrelevant in the market. The numbers have spoken.

Bah to the media, breeding sheeple and the like. Marketing for mainstream titles works far too well. A lot of people simply hate Nintendo because they are told to/everyone else is doing so.

Thankfully a lot of the flak against Nintendo has slowed down since early last year. If Nintendo can release 3-4 must have games this year then they will be on the track to redemption to gamers, but still wont sell due to lack of mainstream games.

I have to agree. The day i will quit gaming is, when Nintendo goes out of business. Their games are still pretty unique compared to the games of the other consoles, even though they are 3 decade old by now. I still have some hope for the Wii U, since it started to generate a lot of positive feedback this year, mostly helped by broken and disappointing AAA releases on other platforms. I don't think it will ever start to fly off the shelves, it's too late for that, but in the end I think it will sell as much as the GC.

The funny thing is, I actually think Nintendo games tend to cater more to the hardcore gaming audience. For example, my non gaming friend has no problem playing and enjoying Tekken or BlazBlue through button mashing, but got frustrated about Smash, because it has a lot to pay attention to. Positioning, dodging, guarding, attacking at the right moment, keeping track of yourself in the chaos, etc. I think that's a bigger problem, than not having casual games on the system. 2 AssCreed was released on the Wii U with abysmal sales, while Rayman Legends sold pretty well. Go figure...

I think the Wii U offers a wide range of games in various genres. It uses old IP's that many people still want, like Zelda, Donkey Kong, Super Smash Bros. ect. It also offers Virtual Console games which usually have great value (£5 for 20 hours in certain games is good value) and that is a unique feature in the industry imo.

There are small titles, like Kirby or Pikmin, and a lot of eShop indies. (though 3DS have a few more in quantity.) New IP's exist btw. Hyrule Warriors although uses Zelda & Dynasty/Samurai Warriors, is a new IP. Splatoon is coming up and W101 is also new.

As a Nintendo & PC gamer.......I play 3rd parties and 1st parties. In fact, currently, half of my Wii U retail collection is 3rd Party, and more than half if included the digital titles. I love variety.

What do u want to know?

Yeah, that old school experience when you buy a console, connect it to the tv and internet and download some mandatory patches of several GB until everything works as it should. ;)

so basically Nintendo is the better console because it doesn't have multiparty games? OK,got it. thanks for your insight

x1 works that way but ps4 you can play emmediatly. Patches arent mendatory, you can still play these consoles offline without patches. Of course if activision, ea and ubisoft are lazy then dont buy their games. Japanese devolopers dont rely on stuff like that, they have different work ethic and consumer standards sicne they arent coming from pc background where patches always were common.

If, by old school experience, you mean games that feel 100% complete and unbroken on day one (I know. Some games have day one patches.) then, yes. I agree.
