Forums - Gaming - What's going to be the most over-hyped game this year?

Tagged games:

I actually think it's going to be either No Mans Sky or Bloodborne, since I believe Halo 5 & Zelda U will live up to the hype, and maybe exceed the expectations. If not, then something revealed at E3 that will release this year.

Fifa is overhyped every year in UK.

No man's sky - The game looks boring to me.
Halo 5 - Halo games are always overhyped.

You do realise you basically said Halo 5 and Zelda WiiU will be the greatest game in their respective series =P  Big Ask!!

A few things at play.

I guess it depends whether we're talking overhyped in general, or overhyped on VGC.

Generally it needs to be a huge game, which then underperforms quality-wise. The clear winner will be CoD, but we'll look beyond that.

It could be Uncharted, but with their last three games being stellar, I don't think Naughty Dog will under-deliver in a big way. Next up could be Halo, but the Beta has clearly been great so far, so this now seems less likely. Other options include The Order (but as its reception is increasingly cool, I don't think it will qualify), Tomb Raider, Quantum Break, Zelda or Gran Turismo (if it arrives). I don't think Bloodborne qualifies, its not a big enough title (and will likely be very good).

On VGC it would likely need to be a Sony or Nintendo game, there just isn't the weight of users to properly hype something up. Key candidates would be the Order, Bloodborne or Zelda.

Nothing this year will be overhyped like Destiny.

No Man's Sky, that game is going to disappoint soooo many people :/

So much this ^^

I see you on that crack pipe also. I think you two are scared this game will do good.

On the contrary, I wish it was more than it seems to be, because it seems like half of a dream game. The ability to explore this vast universe to discover new planets full of strange and fantastic things, that sounds damn brilliant. The art style is really nice too. Unfortunately, by the creator's own admission most of the planets are completely empty and not even remotely as interesting as all the ones handpicked fpor the trailers and presentations, and I've yet to see anything that resembles fun engaging gameplay from it. So ya, I think this game is gonna massively disappoint a lot of people once the initial novelty wears off.

If you buy this game thinking that you can go to whatever planet, find it packed full of aliens and cities then yes, I agree with you but anyone who's been keeping up with the details on the game have realistic expectations.

Call of Duty wins by default.

Can you explain this? Because if I'm honest, I've not experienced much hype for Call of Duty this year and last year everyone was making fun of the "revolutionairy" fish physics. So yeah ...

The hype is certainly not as pronounced as it has been in the past, but it still exists in considerable force via advertising and various outlets such as YouTube. Not many games get on a bag of doritos or a bottle of mountain dew.

Haha, that's true. Perhaps the hype is bigger in the States. I've hardly seen any advertising here.

Do you mean over-hyped as in the hype being disproportionate to the quality of the game or just the game that will be rammed down our throats the most regardless of quality?

Both...?

Can I be the odd man out and say Bloodborne? I feel like this will be very overhyped even though it will probably be a good game.

Halo 5, people expect at least 90 on meta for such game, not sûre 343i can do it

And fable legends for most of the uninformed people who think its a rpg like previous ones

In which world have you seen any hype by now for Fable Legends?

Probably the same one where people see hype for The Order.

There aren't even remotely as many threads for Fable as for The Order.
