How everyone forgets that 2DS is a downgrade...

So should revisions only sell to existing owners?  That just furthers my point of it being a bandaid and not a solution.

HEHE!Mainly! And that's a big advantage for the system!I don't think that anyone would downgrade from 3ds and particularly 3ds xl to 2DS

However, even for non but wannabe 3DS owners just the difference of 40$ with  original 3DS and the 70$ with 3DS xl,doesn't make such a downgrade luring!2DS isn't a good paradigm and in no way a potentially sales booster...As I said,it's a downgrade!Had you seen the comments before they got closed,on youtube presentation video...:P

So what?It was neeeding a revision from february!Dsi and dsi xl had two years and one year respectively, while were more succesful, then the successor to ds,the 3ds came!Even dslite had two years and then got a major revision!3DS will have reach 4 years and 3ds xl almost three years before it gets the major revision(New3ds/xl)!*In the west

How quickly everyone forgets the 2DS.  Revisions are just a bandaid, not a solution.

Well to be fair, I think New 3DS will be more successful that 2DS. People seem to respond better to revisions that actually have improvements rather than ones that take away features. Things like GBA SP or DSi come to mind, those added value to the device by improving upon the design/features.

With that said, I don't believe New 3DS will see the type of success of GBA SP or DSi but they should help keep YOY sales from plummeting in 2015 if they release in US/EU in Q1.

This was a pretty mediocre year for gaming all across the board. 3DS included.

This pretty much explains it all.  Considering all that´s happening, I´d say 3ds had a good year (specially if we compare with its direct competitor - Vita, and with a much hyped home console - the Xbox One)

Of course and farrrrrrrrrrr better! As I said 2DS is a downgrade and this automatically means that current 3ds/xl owners wouldn't buy it,so it loses the big advantage of being bought from a huge amount of the vast current installbase!

Also, the 40$ dollars difference and 70$ with 3DS and 3DSXL respectively, isn't so luring for such a downgrade for non but wannabe 3DS owners!

Being a downgrade implies that you're in no way a potentially sales booster!2DS as revision is bad because revisions meant to be an upgrade, either small or big and 2ds can't actually be used as an indication!

2DS is a downgrade sure, but couldnt one argue that Smash 3ds is a downgrade but people still bought that in droves? It doesnt really matter if something is a downgrade to most, if the downgrade isnt too bad and it is cheaper people wont really mind. I mean all they really did was remove the 3d that lets be honest no one even cares about and Ninty hasnt really pushed since launch. They thought it being cheaper would entice non 3ds owners. IMHO the thing just looks really cumbersome and stupid and thats what really hurt it. Not like it was going to set the charts on fire like some here thought anyway.

Which brings me to my point I think most of the people who want 3ds has one by now. The big gun software has pretty much already been released even from 3rd parties i dont know what they could put on 3ds that would spurce sales. N3ds will do better than 2ds but its not going to light the charts on fire. I think we are just getting back to pre DS sales party wasnt going to last forever

@conina you didnt have to crap on em like that

Few games throughout the year is one main factor. Also, people waited for the New 3DS in Japan (which is now
selling well), and they are waiting for the New 3DS in the West.

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

Essentially, what everyone has said. It's a multitude of things all combining for a hit to the 3DS. Lack of huge games, the New 3DS announcement, niche RPG's, etc.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

3DS deserved what it sold this year. I said it from the beginning. 2014 was a shit year for the 3DS. Nothing truly noteworthy came out for it. Embarrassing.

It will be lucky to sell half of what the DS did. Still good sales! May even outsells psp.

half would be generous
