Forums - Sales - OK, I faced it: WiiU can't sell over 15M

15M, too low or just ok?

With my heartbroken, I agree. 291 32.96%

A pricecut can still push it to 20M-25M. 426 48.24%

Nonsense. WiiU is an assu... 165 18.69%

Total:882

See my sig. Somedays I doubt it'll even reach that.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

It depends on how competitive Nintendo gets with price I suppose. If they can eventually get it down to $199 with multiple games, that could motivate more people to buy a Wii U.

Expectations of the X1 have changed because MS turned things around with price cuts and bundling.

I'm going by official numbers from NPD, the only thing that really counts.  Especially considering VGC had XBO outselling the PS4 in a couple of months throughout the year, when it turned out the opposite was true.  And those numbers back up what I previously stated.

Well we just have to wait until NPD finally adjusts its numbers by VGC.

Still my point stands. PS4 and X1 were very close in US all year around. It didn't need more than a little push for the X1 to take over for a while. That's no miracle but simple marketing.

The Wii U suddenly selling significantly more, now that would be a wonder.

After hours of introspection, reflecting over WiiU sales post-SSB.U release, it's more than obvious to me that WiiU won't sell over 15M AND I was one of the most apologist non-Ninty fan here that believed WiiU could still sell between 17,5M-25M lifetime.

Now it's clear as day to me that no game can push WiiU sales to stratospheric numbers like history always presented us. Didn't happen with SSB., didn't happen with freakin MK8 and didn't happen with 3dWorld Mario. Won't happen with Mario Maker nor Zelda nor a possible Mario Galaxy :( We have yet to see that pricecut, but even that seems too little to late happening next Christmas season.

What is your final verdict?

EDIT! Please move to sales discussion, messed up again!

No clue. Don't really care that much. I just play games, not a business analyst.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

It will be lucky to make it to 15 million, as of this moment. All ninty fans bought the console when Mario Kart came out and so that is why SSB didn't boost sales so much. It's a dead console and news on an upcoming ninty next gen console are just helping it drown faster.

Don't forget the 3ds version. Shoulda been released in early 2015, instead they released before wiiu's version *facepalet*

That's the problem, people don't care what's the difference.

Hope so.

Speaking of your sig, nice PC built.

Nintendo already accepted is a flop and they don't plan to do anything about it, for what I see, they're continuing to support the console just to keep their fanbase happy, for what is worth Nintendo had some good press this year and will likely have the next, at least if they show that they will support a console with poor sales should do good in the eyes of a consumer for the next one.

They somehow released they're biggest flop sans VB just after their biggest success, the whole never underestimate Nintendo thing? It goes both ways, they might wow us with amazing sales or shock us with insale flops. I remember when the system was announced, the then called haters thought the system would barely outsell the NGC and look at it now, its somehow performing worse than what the biggest Nintendo haters thought it would.

It also seems like they're just milking the WiiU owners as much as possible, there won't be many so get as much money from them, I really doubt they will be doing a price cut, and even if it did I doubt it'll do much, it didn't do it for the NGC, why would it be different here? Sure the console has a great library but most people are looking at the games that aren't in the system rather than the ones who are.

Lastly dropping the Gamepad, awful idea, they're smart not do it, what would they do with unbundle gamepads? Let them rot in a warehouse? Sell them stand alone? Who is going to buy them? And its not like the gamepad its just an accesory, its a fundamental piece of the hardware, plenty of games will be unplayable without it, can it be patched? sure, but its not just flipping a switch, time, workforce, money all would have to be spend to do that, and I doubt Nintendo is willing to do it.

Now, if I remember correctly, the gamepad and the console weren't build by the same company and the company who made the gamepad went belly up, or had some sorts of problems, thing is they are quite unlikely making anymore, from what I heard Nintendo ordered 10 million gamepads. I actually expect Nintendo to announce some sort of slim version or whatever of the controller next year, maybe even a revision of the system, that could drop the price but is rather unlikely, finally some where discussing about the performance of the main consoles in the US, well here, NPD numbers:

Really interest on what Nintendo will do once 10m WiiUs are shipped, looking forward for their Q3 & Q4 reports.

Sales are shit. I think it will have a hard time to hit 15 million.

Man if games really did sell consoles the Wii U should be selling much better. My favourite system ever with some of the best games ever!

1doesnotsimply

I think they will hit 20 million when all is said and done, a price cut will move some system, plus they will support this unit for at least 5 years, With the next gen console launching on it's 5 year. So we will at least see a average of 4 million units sold a year. With a little more during next year from the price cut.

Oh... Wii U will reach 15 million, though I voted it won't.
