Feminists and the media would have a field day criticizing Nintendo for picking such a gender-specific name, and rightfully so. We're beyond the whole "video games are for boys" marketing phase, so going back to Game Boy just seems like a strange idea.

What? Lol no. They should stick with the DS brand, or better yet a new brand entirely. Gameboy is dead. That's like people saying that Nintendo should've called the Wii U the "Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System." The brand is dead.

I don't think the brand means anything now. Most kids that had GBs are now in their 20s or 30s and maybe are on PS or XB already. The DS brand has way more name between the youger market that dominates handhelds now.

Reusing the Gameboy brand is fairly pointless to attracting new people. People that do know of the brand, either still buy Nintendo things or stopped caring. Which in return, wouldn't even know the brand came back. And new people have no connection to it. So it doesn't really benefit anything that much. Except not coming up with a new name and logo/box designs.

we already have a Gameboy without Nintendo games and we all know how well that is going :P

we don't want to go backwards

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

No because it's not the hardware name that would matter, it's what they do with it. They've milked the Wii and DS brand long enough, time to start a new one.

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC

Thanks for all the great memories!

Rightfully so?  God, I hate how PC this world has gotten.  It's like the feminazis and their white knight supporters are winning, and that's not a good thing.  I never had a Gameboy, but you you know who did?  Two friends that lived on my street, both of who just so happened to be girls.  You see kids don't give a fuck about that feminist shit, they buy (ask their parents to buy) whatever appeals to them.  Only adults who are pushing an agenda care.  I am proud to say that it seems a vocal majority of gamers don't care about it, either, and are trying to defend one of the few bastions where that shit hasn't taken over.  I hope we keep winning.

@ OP

I think it should return.  I think kids are going to be attracted to whatever has Nintendo games on it.  However, bringing back the Gameboy brand would definitely strike the nostalgia bone in older gamers.  This could lead to larger sales.  And God knows, Nintendo can't withstand their handheld gaming dying to mobile phones.

Nah, I think they should just move on to another name entirely.
I really don't think Nintendo is going to be able to sell more consoles just because it's called a gameboy. Older people would probably still call it a gameboy even if it's a Vita.

No. People would associate it with an old retro console. If you want to stick with the same name you really need to do it consistently and just go something like PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, etc... If they were going to be coming out with the Gameboy 5 right now it would be fine, but "bringing back" the name Gameboy now is not going to magically bring back people who liked Gameboy (more likely that people who know nothing about it will say "I already had a Gameboy years ago...").

No: phone games are in and they're here to stay.
