Forums - Nintendo - What is wrong with Nintendo's online?

On a different note, I really wish the Wii U would have taken off. Things like TVii ate a mere shadow of their former glory and Miiverse would be amazing if more people were able to take advantage of it. Nintendo got some things really right with the WiiU and few people get to experience them.

I can only comment on the 3DS version, but it's crazy how they don't let you send messages to people you've met online, or add them as friends.

Some kind stranger traded me a rare Pokemon I really wanted, (definitely did me a favor), and I was unable to send a thank you message or add him as a friend. I can see him in my "acquaintance list", but can't add him as friend or message.

I guess Nintendo fear that everyone is an online predator.

I found that if you challenge a random person to a battle and both sides let it play out to the end (i.e. no one rage quits), either one of you can send a friend request afterward in the "Would you like to do anything else with _____?" screen. So go battle him, and then friend him. ~_~

Ah, I'll keep that in mind for next time. Thanks. =p
I heard you can also do it after trading pokemon with each other normally (not through GTS, or wahtever it's called.)
I guess it may be poor design then rather than Nintendo being worried about adding strangers?
I'm not sure though, because I have the same problem with people I've met through street pass on my Mii Plaza. I can't seem to add them as friends or send them a message. Only pre made messages like "You are awesome!".

You can send (very short) messages to people you've streetpassed at least twice (or is it three times? One of the two). I'm not sure if it's even 12 digits long to put in your 3DS FC though. I found this out because several people from my company bring their 3DSes to work, and I've streetpassed them multiple times now. It's cool learning someone who you never knew is a gamer is a Nintendo fan!

It's not offline every other week, it needs a few outages and hacks to bring it up to modern standards.

We never got TVii here in Europe. The icon's there, but it just a screen-filler. Miiverse will probably stay for next-gen so there's that .

I've only played Smash and Mario Kart online and Kart worked flawless and for the most part so did Smash but I have experienced lag when playing against some friends. Luckily though, those games are best played in the same couch =)

On top of d21lewis said, the lack of unified account system, archaic digital game recovery, poor online stores, and not all games are treated equally for competitive multiplayer.

Mind elaborating on this? Most of my favorite PS3 games were single player games that didn't attempt to shoehorn competitive multiplayer into the game, and they were all the richer for it. I personally don't think this should be considered if it doesn't suit the game.

Not every game works well. I've found that bigger Nintendo titles generally work (not always as the case with Brawl on Wii), but there are some smaller games that aren't really playable.
