Forums - Gaming - Destiny Nearing 13 Million Players, 500+ People Working on the Game Right Now

500 people? Jeez, they need to work on their effiency. I've seen much better games being made with 40 people.

Around the Network

I don't get where all the internet hate came for this game (haven't played it, and yh lack of content).

Even other game devs love this game.

That's an average playtime of 67 hours per person! Holy shit!

Which I don't really believe at all. At least I hope not lol! Having the "mean" instead of average would be more interesting. Or a boxplot.

the gameplay is so good it makes you want more. i would say i easily put around 40~50 hours into the game, but after that point you just need new strikes, maps and content to do. and the expansion packs are a complete rip off.

i kind of agree.

the gamplay is soooooo fucking good.   but the end game content is a bit light.  i also don't like that some aspects of the loot system.   i want less randomness and more things i can work towards.  i like knowing what i'm working towards and not just "do this for another chance to roll the dice".   still, i just can't stop playing.

gameplay is insanly good.

yeah i would prefer the loot system to be fixed, and the fucking match making for raids and weekly/night fall strike.

Weekly Nightfall matchmaking, sure.

While I would have agreed with matchmaking on raid when the game first came out, having done the VoG hard raid and Crota's End raid so many times now I have to say that there is literally no point in putting matchmaking in them. The tasks you have to do in the raids require everyone to contribute very specific roles in very specific ways from very specific locations which need to be pre-determined before the raid even begins. Someone or a group of people may need to bring certain weapons (Gjhallahorn/Ice Breakers) or you may need people with certain type of experience (sword bearing against Crota/Relic holding against Templar) or you need a certain sub-class (Titans with defender shield and weapons of light). It is extremely unlikely that through random matchmaking you are going to be able to have all these variables match up. Not to mention, communication is a MUST in raids. If one person isn't talking it's over already. I would be surprised if a randomly matchmade team could even get past the beginning part of defending the confluxes in the VoG hard raid.

So yes ultimately there is no point in matchmaking in raids. These are missions you have to tackle with a bunch of people you have assembled specifically for the tasks at hand and given much thought to.

As for the loot system, I am liking what Bungie has done with the new raid drops. The game actually keeps track of what weapons/armour you already have and drops things that you don't have more often. So that's a step in the right direction but this system needs to be put in place for the entire loot system and not just the raid drops.

Congratz to Bungie on this accomplishment.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Outliers heavily influence the average, making it not relevant statistically.

Of course we'll never know the "mean" or the boxplot of Destiny. Would be interesting though.

Why would you hope not? How does it affect you if other people are enjoying this game and playing it for a long time?
